iPad fastest growing games platform as consoles shrink to 40%

The iPad is the fastest growing games platform, developers EA have suggested, with consoles now accounting for just 40-percent of the games industry. "Consoles used to be 80-percent of the industry as recently as 2000" CEO John Riccitiello told IndustryGamers. "Consoles today are 40% of the game industry, so what do we really have?" He argues that the rise in casual gaming has meant that the cyclical nature of the games industry is less of an issue.

RIM has pushed BlackBerry Messenger v6 (BBM 6) out of the door, updating the popular instant messaging app for the company's BlackBerry smartphones. Available to download today through BlackBerry App World, BBM 6 adds support for new, connected apps such as updated versions of FourSquare and Wikitude (see video demos after the cut), allowing users to collaborate within the third-party software using BBM.

ITC Finds Apple’s OS X Infringes HTC’s S3 Patents, But iOS Cleared

A ruling by the International Trade Commission (ITC) in the US on the patent case between Apple and HTC has just been released to the public this week. The ongoing battle has had many twists and turns, involving multiple ITC complaints back and forth, but this one is specifically about the S3 patents owned by HTC that Apple could be violating. The ITC has found that Apple's Mac OS X platform does infringe on the patents, but that its iOS mobile platform does not.
