ASUS have outed their first supercomputer, and while you might associate the term with rooms packed full of ominous black totems, the ASUS ECS 1000 is actually a simple desktop. Despite the compact size, the ECS 1000 manages to hit speeds of up to 1.1 terraflops courtesy of NVIDIA graphics cards; the 3.33GHz Intel LGA1366 Xeon W3580 is paired with three NVIDIA Tesla C1060 computing processors and a single Quadro FX5800.

ASUS ECS 1000 desktop supercomputer debuts
Revo HERITAGE packs retro styling with DAB, WiFi streaming, iPod dock, more
We've a soft-spot for Scottish radio and iPod dock manufacturer Revo; their tech at least attempts to look interesting, whether it's through retro styling (but up to date functionality) or something more modern but no less distinctive. The company's latest model is the Revo HERITAGE, a "contemporary reinterpretation of classic European table radio designs from the 50's and 60's" that packages DAB, DAB+, FM and WiFi internet radio, DLNA UPnP streaming and an iPod/iPhone dock.

ODROID Android gaming handheld dev edition sells out
We were a little uncertain whether there was a market for HardKernel's ODROID Android gaming device, but those doubts don't appear to have been shared by the development community. We've heard that the entire first batch of ODROID developer edition units have sold-out, and will begin shipping in Korea on November 5th; meanwhile a second batch will go on sale there next week. The device sells for the equivalent of around $320.

HTC Sense arrives on Magic in Asia; further updates unclear
Back in August HTC confirmed that certain models in their Android line-up would eventually get an upgrade to HTC Sense, the UI debuted on the well-received HTC Hero. Now HTC Asia has pushed out Sense for the Magic; however it appears to be only for unlocked versions of the Magic (and potentially only Asian-language models) rather than carrier-branded versions such as the T-Mobile myTouch 3G.

eviGroup Pad UMPC full specs confirmed
Attention for French firm eviGroup's upcoming Pad UMPC is growing, the company has released full specifications for the 10.6-inch touchscreen slate. The Pad has a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM (which, unlike many netbooks, is removable) and a 160GB 2.5-inch hard-drive, together with WiFi a/b/g and 3G (WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/CDMA).

Nintendo DSi to get screen size increase in Japan?
Nintendo are tipped to be readying a refresh to their DSi handheld, timed to coincide with the games console's first birthday on November 1st. According to Nikkei, Nintendo Japan are readying a new DSi with dual 4-inch displays, rather than the existing 3.25-inch panels used in the current model.
Update: A Nintendo spokesperson has told Famitsu.com that "Our company isn't doing any interviews [about this]. We think it's a speculative article." Neat sidestep, guys.

MSI Tegra-based ebook reader planned for 2010
MSI are threatening to join the ebook reader market themselves, with company chairman Joseph Hsu revealing that they're currently working on an NVIDIA Tegra based device. The news comes after ASUS reiterated their ongoing ebook reader development, with the most recent news suggesting that the company has not one but two such devices in the works, offering two different screen sizes.

Sony Ericsson's first Android device might almost be upon us, after months of teasing and leaks. We liked the original Iomega StorCenter ix2 back when we reviewed it roughly twelve months ago, but the rest of the home NAS market has advanced in the intervening period and the ix2 is looking a little stale. To address that fact, Iomega have launched the StorCenter ix2-200, their second-gen version of the dual-drive backup station, now boasting removable storage and more. Mystery phone ID’d as HTC Passion, hitting Verizon within months?
Remember the mysterious HTC smartphone that showed up this time last week, and that we all assumed was the upcoming Snapdragon-based HTC Dragon? Well, the source of those images, TheUnlockr, has decided it's the Dragon too, or to be more exact Verizon's version of the handset, the HTC Passion. He's claiming 90-percent certainty on the ID, and if so you could be seeing this Android smartphone on shelves by the end of the year.
The Passion (aka the CDMA Dragon) is expected to be the Android version of the HTC HD2, which basically adds up to a huge capacitive touchscreen - the HD2 uses a 4.3-inch panel - together with all the wireless connectivity you could hope for an a 1GHz processor. The touch-sensitive buttons beneath the touchscreen on the Passion certainly look like those on Verizon's other upcoming Android handsets, such as the Motorola Droid, and the white notification bar is similar too.

Intel Atom N470 comes with looser netbook spec restrictions
If you've dipped even the tiniest of toes into the tech world this past twelve months, you'll likely have noticed the cookie-cutter spec sheets for netbooks. Intel and Microsoft's policies on exactly how big a hard-drive, how much RAM and other elements of a netbook's make-up have hamstrung what could've potentially been a hugely innovative segment into little more than a matter of aesthetics. Unfortunately neither company plans to lift those regulations any time soon, but we're hearing at least that with the advent of the Intel Atom N470 the bar will be raised somewhat.

Intel have pushed out their promised update to the X25-M SSD, along with the Intel SSD Toolbox and Optimizer, the standout factor of which is a 40-percent increase in performance for the 160GB drive. With the new 34nm X25-M SSD, users can expect up to 100MB per second sequential write speeds.
