Lenovo IdeaCentre Q110 NVIDIA Ion nettop on sale now

Lenovo's NVIDIA Ion packing nettop, the IdeaCentre Q110, has finally hit virtual shelves, with prices starting from $399.  A compact 6 x 6.8 x 0.8 inches, the Q110 uses Intel's single-core Atom 230 1.6GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard-drive and Windows Vista Home Premium 64; an upgrade to Windows 7 upon its release next month is also included in the price. Intel Pine Trail due Q4; products unlikely until early 2010

After ongoing rumors and speculation that Intel would miss their Q4 launch for Pine Trail, their next-gen Atom processor line-up, the company has again confirmed that the low-power netbook processors are on course to hit manufacturers in Q4 2009.  However the company will not be drawn on how long those chips will then take to show up in commercially-available devices: estimates suggest that Pine Trail based netbooks won't actually be on shelves until Q1 2010 at the earliest. New iMac imminent say sources: sleeker, cheaper, more A/V abilities

Following on from rumors earlier this month that Apple plan new iMac desktops, Apple Insider has heard that indeed the Cupertino company have already begun production of their new models.  Apparently finalized in design early in September, the new iMacs are tipped to be cheaper but more compact than previous generation models, while other advances "not previously available" to buyers would now be on the table. Bionic Eye AR app for iPhone 3GS [Video]

It's not quite as exciting as a motorized head-up display, but Bionic Eye for the iPhone 3GS does at least save you from squeezing into some Lycra and leaping aboard the nearest push-bike.  Currently available in the App Store, Bionic Eye is another augmented reality (AR) app which overlays information about the immediate environment onto a real-time camera view.  In this case, it uses a POI database including restaurants, WiFi hotspots, subway stations and more. The whole Clearwire/Clear/WiMAX/Sprint/XOHM branding situation was never all that straightforward to begin with; let's face it, consumers want to know exactly what they should be asking for when they go into the store.  Now Clearwire are seemingly intending to make things easier - or upset the whole situation once more, perhaps - with a fresh new relaunch as CLEAR.  The new name apparently signifies the switch from "pre-WiMAX service" to true 4G WiMAX, and brings with it a fresh boost of speed. Robot fish reads your tweets; new mbed microcontroller [Video]

Is there any better hack than making a robot fish read out Twitter messages?  If there is, don't tell Dan Ros about it: he's spent his spare time hooking up a Big Mouth Billy Bass "novelty" fish to an mbed microcontroller.  Initially the fish merely repeated .wav files from an SD card, but then they used the mbed's HTTPClient library to pull in tweets instead. Retinal implant could bring sight to blind says MIT team

MIT researchers have come up with a retinal implant that sends images from a glasses-mounted camera directly to the brain, via the optic nerve.  Intended to bring some degree of vision back to the blind, the system should begin real-world testing in around three years time, according to MIT electrical engineering professor John Wyatt. Samsung Instinct HD hitting Sprint September 27th

Samsung and Sprint have finally come clean and officially announced the Instinct HD, which will hit stores in the US from September 27th.  The Instinct HD brings with it a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 touchscreen, EVDO Rev.A, WiFi b/g, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera recording 720p (1280 x 720 30fps) video and, perhaps most interesting, a TV-out connection supporting HD resolutions with an optional HDMI adapter.
