Energizer ‘D’ rechargeable battery cracked open: cheaper, low-power AA lurks inside

For most people, a battery is a mysterious little pack of magic, containing the juice that makes our gadgets flash and bleep (and then run out just when we really need them).  For Energizer, it seems, batteries are an opportunity to perform some mild deception: it turns out that inside the chunky, D-sized casing of an Energizer rechargeable is a spacer-clad sub-C cell AA battery offering far less power than you'd expect. Xbox 360 price cuts from Friday 28th: Elite $300, Pro $250

Microsoft have confirmed that the Xbox 360 Elite console will see a price cut to $299.99 as of tomorrow, while the Xbox 360 Pro will see a more conservative $50 discount to $249.99, for as long as stocks last.  Rumors of price shuffles have circulated for some time now, with various leaked store fliers confirming that retailers are getting ready for the cuts. ViewSonic PJD2121 Pico-Projector and WPG-350 WiFi-n video streamer launch

ViewSonic have outed a couple of new projector systems, the PJD2121 pico-projector and the WPG-350 presentation gateway.  The former is a 720p/1080i capable mini-projector which can throw a 60-inch image, while the latter hooks up to any projector or display with a VGA port and funnels presentations (up to 1024 x 768) or 1080p video via WiFi b/g/n from a nearby laptop or PC. Google adds EPUB support to 1m+ ebooks

Google have updated their ebook project with the ability to download titles in EPUB format, the same file type as Sony recently switched to with its new range of ebook Reader devices.  It means that in excess of a million titles are now available in the more Reader-friendly format, having been scanned in, processed and edited by Google themselves in many cases. Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1 MID lands in Japan next month

Looking surprisingly like UMID's mbook M1 MID, Sharp have unveiled their newest clamshell ultraportable and - thank goodness - it's not just an e-dictionary.  The Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1 has a 5-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard with optical mouse, and Ubuntu 9.04 as the OS; connectivity includes WiFi b/g, both a USB and mini-USB port, and a headphone jack, but there's no integrated 3G. Sirius XM reveal XM SkyDock iPhone and iPod touch satellite radio system

Sirius XM have announced their first radio dock for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, the XM SkyDock taking advantage of OS 3.0's third-party peripheral integration to add a satellite radio tuner to the handheld and have it controlled by the new companion app.  The dock slots into a car's power point, supporting the PMP with a flexible arm and custom cradle, and not only allows for listening to Sirius XM radio but for tagging tracks that you later want to buy on iTunes. Snow Leopard is Just Plain Cool: Gartenberg First Hands On

For the first time in recent memory, Apple and Microsoft will go up against each other head to head with the newest versions of their platforms, released within weeks of each other. First up is Apple with Snow Leopard. Originally announced for a late September release, Apple surprised the market with an early ship date. Users will be able to pick up their copies starting on the 28th. Pricing for the release is $29 for Leopard users looking to upgrade. For Mac users still on Tiger, Apple offers the Snow Leopard box set which includes Snow Leopard along with the latest versions of iLife and iWork for $169.

Bungie Might Not Be Finished With Halo, or They Might Be

Around the time of this year's E3, back in June, there was some good and bad news delivered regarding one of the quintessential video games to grace consoles in recent times: Halo. With the announcements of Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach came the good news; but then Lars Bakken, Senior Designer over at Bungie Studios, made some comments regarding the final days of the Halo series, with regards to Bungie's involvement. The system is upgraded with an AMD Ahtlon X2 Dual Core processor, which provides increased processing power. The Wind Top also comes with a crystal clear 20-inch touch-enabled widescreen display. The display itself is classified with an EPA Energy Star Version 5.0 efficiency rating, which provides customers with a powerful PC, as well as a ridiculously aesthetically pleasing look to it. Sony PSP Go Torn Asunder and Inspected

Tearing down gadgets isn't new. In fact, The PSP Go's bigger brethren just went through the same thing. There's plenty of reasons to do these things to new pieces of tech, but most of it revolves around finding out what makes them tick, and how much it cost to put it all together. In the case of the PSP Go, there's nothing really new to show off. And to be honest, we'd much prefer to have one not disassembled, rather than look at those standard guts within. Super USB Mobile Phone Charger Charges More Than Your Mobile Phone

While we hate to admit it, a universal charger doesn't seem to be something that's going to happen any time soon for the mobile phone industry. And while we don't expect anything from the other personal gadget manufacturers, it's pretty ridiculous that we usually need to buy a new charger when we get a new phone. Making a standard seems to be the obvious thing to do, but hey, what do we know? Then again, if we had a universal rule of thumb for charging our phones, we wouldn't get cool devices like this.
