Creative demo Zii EGG gaming, ZMD 05 Plaszma module [Video]

Creative have been showing off some of their new Zii EGG developer device's 3D gaming skills, with a video of the iPod touch-like handheld running a 3D OpenGL ES enhanced racing game complete with accelerometer control.  The company has also released a more technical video about their StemCell Computing platform, demonstrating some of the abilities of the ZMS 05 System Module at the Zii EGG's core.

Sony finances still dire: PS3 and PSP sales crash

Sony have announced their latest financial results [pdf link], and given their last set of figures revealed a dire 95-percent crash in profits a quarter ago, all eyes are on the Japanese giant to see if they've managed to turn things around.  Unfortunately, it's still not looking good: sales decreased 19.2-percent compared to the same quarter 2008, and an operating loss of 25.7bn yen ($268m) recorded.  That's 99.1bn yen down from the previous year.

JVC announce four new sets of headphones

Headphones-a-plenty from JVC today, as the company announces two new sets of over-the-ear cans and two sets of multicolored in-ear headphones.  The former, the HA-M750 and HA-S650, are each foldable for easy transport and storage, and have carbon compound diaphragms, rigid carbon housings and memory-foam ear cushions.  The M750 uses 1.57-inch drivers while the S650 uses slightly smaller 1.42-inch drivers; they'll be available in August for $79.95 and $69.95 respectively.

Of Viewsonic's new ULV lineup from last week it was the nettops that prompted the most interest.  The Viewsonic VOT 130 and 132 (on the left) and the Viewsonic VOT 120 and 121 (on the right) offer such notable features as NVIDIA Ion (in the VOT 132), a magnetically-attached DVD drive (the 13x models) and 1.3GHz CULV processor (the VOT 121).  NetbookNews stopped by for a couple of video hands-on demos with the nettops.

When you call your company M&Soft, we can't help but wonder whether you're looking to borrow a little big-player luster from Microsoft; however the Korean firm could feasibly stand on its own feet by making PND units with displays almost bigger than your car's windshield.  The M&Soft Mappy API may have a ridiculous name, but inside it's a different story: as well as the SiRF v6 chipset there's DMB digital TV and media playback.

It's turning into quite the day of DSLRs, but if you thought Nikon's $1800 D300S was expensive, how about a Leica that starts at over $26k?  The company have announced pricing for their 2009 S-System line-up, and as you might expect for a 37.5-megapixel DSLR body it's a costly prospect.  Leica will make two versions of the S-System body, the standard S2 and the S2-P which adds a sapphire glass display and "Platinum Service" support package.

Developer ThunderSoft have released a video demonstrating their latest custom software build, a version of Android for netbook computers.  Their demo shows multi-window support, with both a title bar and cursor, together with support for display resolutions up to 1280 x 720 and the ability to drag, drop and maximize windows.

Nikon D3000 entry-level DSLR with tutoring Guide mode

It's not  just Nikon's flagship D300S new today; the company has also unveiled an entry-level DSLR, the Nikon D3000, aimed at getting new photographers addicted.  The 10.2-megapixel camera uses an 11-point autofocus system, DX-format sensor and EXPEED image processing, but the most interesting feature for beginners will be the Guide mode.  Not just an automatic setup, Guide mode promises to explain why different settings should be chosen; yes, that's right, it's a teacher trapped inside your DSLR.

Nikon D300S DSLR announced: 12.3MP and 24fps 720p HD video

Nikon have announced the D300S, its new DX-format DSLR flagship.  The 12.3-megapixel DX-sensor camera has 51-point autofocus and can shoot 7 frames per second; however it can also record 24fps 720p high-definition video with contrast-detect AF (while in Tripod mode).  Nikon have added a stereo microphone input and in-camera movie editing for clip trimming.

WowWee's Cinemin Swivel bendy pico-projector is now officially available for pre-order, only around two months since Amazon began accepting pre-orders themselves.  Announced back at CES, the Cinemin Swivel is capable of projecting a 60-inch (1.5m) image from over 8 feet (2m) away, and has a 90-degree hinge useful for squirting the picture out onto the ceiling without demanding you hold it.
