SlashGear Exclusive: Live video of Verizon’s Voyager smartphone

SlashGear Exclusive: Live video of Verizon’s Voyager smartphone

Out of all of Verizon's holiday lineup, the most anticipated (and the most hyped) has been the Voyager. A clamshell with full touchscreen on the outside and QWERTY keypad for fulsome messaging on the inside, it's been granted the usual title of "iPhone Killer" and Verizon's Chief Marketing Officer Mike Lanman pushed out all his chips by saying "we think it'll be the best phone ... it will kill the iPhone". SlashGear's Vincent Nguyen cajoled some hands-on time with the Voyager at CTIA - including some exclusive video of it in action - and gave some preliminary feedback; we'll be bringing you a full review later on when we've had time to really get to know the handset's quirks.

SlashGear Exclusive: Hands-on with Verizon’s Venus split-screen music phone

SlashGear Exclusive: Hands-on with Verizon’s Venus split-screen music phone

Dual-screens on a cellphone are nothing new: clamshells have had them for years, giving Caller ID and status on the outside, while Samsung even experimented with candybars that had a screen on each side.  Verizon's musicphone for this season, however, the Venus by LG, manages to eke a further new trick out of the dual-screen concept: itself a slider, it has both screens one on top of the other on the same side, the top a standard display while the lower panel is a touchscreen.  SlashGear's Vincent Nguyen grabbed some hands-on time with the Voyager Venus at CTIA - including some exclusive video of the Venus in action - to see if using the cellphone lives up to the concept.  Remember, this is just a first-look; we'll be bringing you the full SlashGear review of the Venus very soon!

VYE S37 – too big to be a true UMPC?

VYE S37 – too big to be a true UMPC?

What do you call a grown-up UMPC?  That's the question over at jkOnTheRun, where a dishevelled Kevin Tofel has taken delivery of a VYE S37 from import specialist Dynamism.  Based on a platform by Kohjinsha - who have featured regularly on SlashGear's pages for their ultra-compact convertible Tablet PCs - the S37 is nonetheless its own beast, with upgraded specifications pushing the device into the ambiguous mid-ground between pure UMPC and ultra-portable laptop.

1 in 6 iPhones purchased with the intent to unlock

If you've purchased and iPhone I have to ask, did you do so with the intention of unlocking it? There's a pretty decent chance that you did just that. According to Apple, roughly 1 out of every 6 iPhones was purchased with the sole purpose of unlocking it.

Rock Band’s World Tour mode won’t have online play

Rock Band’s World Tour mode won’t have online play

We're just a month away from the release of the new rhythm title from Harmonix: Rock Band. I've already had the pleasure of playing the game, and I can tell you, it's going to be legendary.

One of the coolest gameplay modes is the World Tour. This takes you and your fellow bandmates across the world rocking out larger and larger venues and gathering hordes of screaming fans. Unfortunately, there is one drawback to World Tour mode. You'll only be able to rock out with the people in the same room, there won't be any online play in this mode.

Transformers outsells all other HD titles

Transformers was easily one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer. It did incredibly well at the box office, so it's no surprise that DVD sales have done great as well. What is a bit surprising is that it is now the best-selling HD DVD title to date.

Rumor – BioWare is working on a Star Wars MMO set in the KotOR era

Rumor – BioWare is working on a Star Wars MMO set in the KotOR era

I'm something of a WoW addict these days, but my first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies. I played back when the game didn't suck. Of course SOE decided to take the game in a new direction, and completely destroyed the game as we knew it. Sure, it's not bad now, but it's a completely different game, and I have no desire to reactivate my account. However, there is hope for a good Star Wars MMO in the future.

Rumors peg BioWare as working on a new MMO set in the Star Wars universe in the same time period as the Knights of the Old Republic games. If there's one thing that can steal me away from WoW, it's a new Star Wars MMO.
