Zune Price Drops $50, People Continue Listening To iPods

So Microsoft has officially lowered the price of the Zune, their 30GB media player, by $50. That makes it $199 each, or $50 cheaper than the current gen iPod of the same capacity. However, I would be willing to wager that even though the Zune has more features, and now has a cheaper price than the iPod, even if Apple weren’t releasing new ones tomorrow, they iPod would still outsell the Zune. Pioneer AVIC-N4 In-Car Nav and Multimedia System

First let’s start with the fact that this thing costs $1600 and can’t do navigation and music at the same time. Nor does it have any integrated storage, which means for probably the same money or less you could by a better receiver and then get a TomTom. However this unit does tuck things away nicely with its motorized 7” touchscreen LCD. Just don’t ever lose that navigation DVD. Oh yeah, that’s another function of the unit, not only can it play DVDs but it can play several other media sources including iPods, compressed audio (which formats?) discs. Read The Full Story

Promising to frustrate an awful lot of early adopters, UK gadget mag T3 are reporting that Apple are set to announce the iPhone 2 at today's Special Event - not only fresh for the UK market, but packing 3G to sate the Brit's voracious data urges.   Read The Full Story

Modular ‘Lobster’ concept has snap-on GPS, camera

, Sep 5th 2007 Discuss [0]

If you're going to call your concept "Lobster" then it damn well better have snappy-claws!  It's an instant point knocked off for Danilio Mangini's modular wristband, but they quickly score again thanks to a concept product that might actually be useful.  The Lobster is a core screen and cellphone with detachable modules that each bring different functionality; for instance, you may snap on a GPS module, or alternatively a MP3 player.   Read The Full Story

Optimus actually put together their OLED keyboard

, Sep 5th 2007 Discuss [0]

Good grief, is this an actual, real-life, not-a-render photo of Optimus' Maximus "each key an OLED" keyboard?  Pieced together to show the difference between the tinted clear key-caps (e.g. the non-single-sized keys in this photo) and the untinted keys (all the single keys), it has the honour of being the first ever working prototype we've seen.   Click here for the full-sized image Read The Full Story

Palm kills Foleo ‘Smartphone Companion’ to focus on next-gen OS

, Sep 4th 2007 Discuss [1]

Palm giveth, Palm taketh away. You know the Foleo "smartphone companion" we were all so, well, maybe not stoked about but at least interested enough to say "meh, okay?" with a little feeling - well, Palm CEO Ed Colligan has just axed it. In a statement on the Palm Official Blog, Colligan expresses his doubts that the company could support two different platforms - the Foleo's and the ongoing development of the next-gen Palm OS - and as such has decided to kill off the compact not-quite-a-laptop before it even launched. HP to return to smartphone market with pair of WM6 3G models

, Sep 4th 2007 Discuss [2]

Last month our cellphone-obsessed sister site, SlashPhone, covered the industry rumour that HP was preparing to launch a number of new smartphones in Q4 this year; now, Smartphone France has fished out these renders of what are apparently the new iPAQ 600 (left) and 900 (right) series handsets.  Both are said to run WM6 Pro, have 3G and WiFi connectivity, as well as integrated GPS.   Read The Full Story

Palm Centro caught in wild

, Sep 4th 2007 Discuss [1]

Photos can be deceiving when it comes to size - for instance, I myself look perfectly normal in pictures, but in actual fact I'm only 7mm tall - so it's always good to see gadgets compared to something else in order to be able to say whether they're slim'n'sexy or fat'n'frumpy.  These live photos of Palm's latest smartphone, the Centro, will please as many as they disappoint; up close to a BlackBerry Curve it's obviously a dinky little cellphone, but will that make those jewel-like QWERTY keys tricky to use?   Read The Full Story

IFA 2007 – Archos launch TV+ PVR and media streamer, announce prices

, Sep 4th 2007 Discuss [1]

Here's something I really can't wait to get my hands on: Archos' TV+ PVR/media streamer/web surfer, which the company were flaunting at IFA 2007.  An instant competitor to the AppleTV - and, so my gut feeling says, with the potential to blow it out of the water - the compact box has a choice of 80GB or 250GB hard-drives and a plethora of connectivity including HDMI (outputting 720p Hi-Def), WiFi, USB 2.0 and ethernet.   Read The Full Story
