Fujitsu Stylistic Slates melt my heart

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [3]

Oh sweet mother of a tiny goose, my mouth sure is watering tonight!  Feast your eyes, friends and neighbours, on this gorgeous slate Tablet PC from Fujitsu.  Less than an inch thick, with a magnesium-alloy lower housing and weighing just 3.5 pounds, this truly is the bee's knees of keyboard-less pen computing.  It's not just pretty, either; with a 1.2GHz Intel Core Duo Mobile processor, minimum of 512mb of RAM (upgradeable to 4Gb) and 40Gb 5400rpm hard-drive (upgradeable to 100gb), oh and a battery that's rated for up to six hours, it's a mobile powerhouse. There are two screen options; the ST5111 has a 10.4-inch XGA reflective front-lit display optimised for outdoor use, while the ST5112 has a bigger, 12.1-inch XGA wide-view display, also rated for indoor and outdoor use, with a 160 degree viewing angle, but without the front-lighting.  Both come with a/b/g WiFi and Bluetooth, while the ST5112 has a fingerprint reader in addition to the Smart Card slot each has as standard.  Options include a 9-cell battery that should last up to nine hours, a dual-mic array (only on the ST5112 model) and docking station (giving three USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, VGA-out, ethernet (RJ-45) port, audio line-out, DC-in, and a modular bay for weight saver, DVD-ROM, CD-RW/DVD combo, or DL Multi-Format DVD Writer). The ST5111 starts at $2,429 and the ST5112 at $2,199. Press Release and Product Page [via jkontherun]

Loc8tor: Personal Homing Device

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [2]

Often misplace your keys, your pets, or your children? Often forget where you parked your car in the parking lot? Well, if that sounds like you, then the Loc8tor is here to the rescue, as their doctrine is “don’t lose it, locate it.” The device is nothing incredibly new in homing technology, but it does provide the first affordable personal homing device of its kind.

Just tag any item you wish to keep track of and locate incase it later gets lost. When you need to locate it  the Loc8tor device uses a combination of audio and visual cues to guide you to your misplaced item up to 600 feet away. In Alert mode an invisible safety zone can be setup around the Loc8tor alerting you with audio-visual and vibration alarms should tagged items move out of the set boundary.

Circuit City $200 Shopping Spree With a Catch

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [0]

Bargain hunters get your gear ready! Black Friday is coming closer each second. We just received a tip that Circuit City is offering $200 shopping spree in store when you sign up for a year of Vonage VOIP service. I don’t think this is a great deal for everyone, but those who are planning to get Vonage VOIP should take advantage of this offer.

Beginning on what’s known as the busiest shopping day of the year, “Black Friday” (November 24), Circuit City is offering its customers a $200 shopping spree toward any purchase in their store when they sign up for a year of Vonage broadband telephone service. New Vonage customers will also receive select devices at no cost after mail-in rebate. The exciting deal will kick off on November 24 and end on December 2. Consumers can take advantage of this offer at any Circuit City in the US and activate service with the purchase of a Vonage device immediately at any in-store kiosk.
Thanks for the tips Elisa.

Sidekick 3 UK December release confirmed

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [31]

Hoorah!  T-Mobile UK have finally got off of their pink-tinged buttocks and announced the long-awaited Sidekick 3 release.  The keyboard-equipped, 1.3-megapixel camera sporting, screen-swivelling mobile messaging marvel will be available come December, with prices dependent on which tariff you sell your soul to.  For the first time in a Sidekick device there's an mp3 player with a MiniSD slot for expandable storage.  Photos taken are automatically uploaded to T-Mobile's servers, saving on internal memory, and the same push-email and instant messaging abilities which made the Sidekick so popular are continued.  In the US, where this third generation device has been available for some time, IM fans can contact friends on AIM, MSN and Yahoo! messaging clients; T-Mobile's press release does not specify which standards they'll be supporting, so we can only hope it's all three rather than solely AIM as in the previous model. SlashPhone plays with the Treo 680 – Video Unboxing

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [0]

Our sister site, SlashPhone, have scored some hands-on time with Palm's latest Treo, the 680, and put up both an unboxing video and a video run-through of the menu system.  The former is shown below; the latter is over on their site.  What do they think?  Well, it's still chunkier than rivals like the Dash, there's no 3G or WiFi, but the screen is gorgeous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGAdUZQATtI For anybody wondering how they managed to make the 680 thinner than previous Palm models, they also have photos of different generation batteries, as well as comparison shots with the T-Mobile Dash and the Treo 750. Microsoft Zune runs on Vista

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [0]

Poor old Zune, it's come in for some stick because apparently Microsoft have played their cards close to their chest and not supported it officially with their latest Vista OS.  Thankfully there are software tweakers out there like Andre de Cavaignac, who - with some judicious molesting of the MSI tables - has managed to get his brand new Zune to sync with the Zune marketplace running on Vista. Obviously anybody trying this does so at their own risk; for the less-adventurous, just take comfort in the fact that it won't take much more than a minor patch update for Microsoft to enable Zune on their new OS. Tyukalov Custom Wireless Mice

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [0]

Every Christmas there are certain people on my list who are very difficult to buy for.  All year I hope that they'll be badly behaved, so that I can cross them off, but it inevitably gets to mid-December and I'm scurrying around the stores like a radioactive chicken desperately searching for something interesting to buy.  Well, now I know what I could get for the discerning geeks in my life: one of these custom-made wireless mice from Tyukalov. Currently hand-made in three different designs, each with leather inlays and metal highlights, they not only look good but also incorporate the standard features of optical sensor and scroll wheel.  Apparently made from "materials traditionally used by NASA and other space agencies", they come in a custom presentation case.  Slava Tyukalov, their maker, has also put together the hilarious Matreshka covert USB flash drive shown after the cut. The Wii’s Sensor Bar Wii-vealed

, Nov 22nd 2006 Discuss [0]

Hackers will take apart most anything electronic, and since the Nintendo Wii is probably one of the coolest - and oddest - gadgets to hit shelves in recent memory, of course the first thing a hacker's going to do it dissect it. That's what these guys did, ripping the Wii's sensor bar apart to find nothing more than a couple of IR transmitters, meaning that the Sensor Bar does very little sensing and most of the Wii's motion processing is handled by the Wiimote. Of course, now that hackers have a better understanding of the Sensor Bar, I'm hoping we see this nifty little technology ported elsewhere; nothing would be quite as cool as using the Wiimote as a computer mouse. But I digress; enjoy the video! [youtube JTGSkYRDpWY] [via Engadget]

This shouldn’t come as a surprised to everyone that Palm is due to release the Treo 680 through Cingular. The Cingular version will cost $199.99 available on Friday Nov. 24, 2006. Palm is also making selling unlocked version of the Treo 680 at Palm U.S. retail stores after Dec 1, 2006 for $399.00. Palm's Treo 680 smartphone is easy to use and packed full of features beyond its stellar phone capability, such as email, web browsing, messaging, multimedia, calendar, contacts and more with a smaller and sleeker design than its Treo predecessors in the United States.

Apple’s Tokyo Store – the building is better than the products!

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [0]

Even though I live in a flat (and a single-story one at that; we're not talking a duplex, people) I want one of these multi-floor walk-through screens as seen in Apple's Tokyo store. iLounge have visited this mecca for Macs and give a great run-down of what you can expect should you be tempted over there. Check out the full pillar after the jump (complete with a security guard standing watch over a display of 1,000 Nano's) [youtube 87_1IYQ4m7U] Read The Full Story
