Windows Mobile 6.0 reviewed

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [0]

If you're in the market for a new cellphone, you want Mobile-Review to have taken a look at it.  They're well known for not only getting their hands on handsets early, but for putting together indecently comprehensive reviews.  So it's great to see they've taken a long hard look at the next-gen Windows Mobile, version 6.0 (codename Crossbow), and done a lovely big piece exploring all aspects of what appears to be an update rather than a revolution of the portable OS.  More screenshots after the cut. With entertainment like this, who needs to get out of the tub?

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [5]

When I'm soaping up in a nice relaxing bath, the one thing missing is a good slasher horror movie - Texas Chainsaw Massacre, perhaps, or Trouserless Zombies Do Manhattan.  Obviously I know better than to drag the TV into the bathroom; after the first few shocks I learnt my lesson, and I've almost got all the feeling in my fingers back.  Di Vapor thankfully have a better way of my getting my foamy flicks - the Cosmo Hydromassage Whirlpool Bathtub.  It not only has a range of adjustable air massage jets to frot at my underwater bits, it has an 8.5-inch LCD screen that can show anything from terrestrial TV through cable to your CCTV feed. Urilift Stops Fouling of City Streets

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [2]

Public urination crimes perpetrated mainly by male offenders seems to be rampant in European cities. So much so that a $75,000 system, called the Urilift had to be implemented to stop the fouling of city streets. The Urilift is essentially a two meter high stainless steel cylinder with three alcoves, each with a  urinal, and no doors. Using hydraulics, the unit is lifted up at night when said offenses occurred most often, and lowered underground during the day. These systems have already been implemented across the Netherlands, London, and Belfast, but Victoria will be the first North American city to try them out.

Delkin ExpressCard 34 CompactFlash Reader

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [0]

No it’s not a typo; it’s Delkin, not Belkin. The eFilm ExpressCard 34 CompactFlash Card Adapter by Delkin will allow you to use your ExpressCard slot in your Macbooks or Macbook Pros to read a Compact Flash cards. At $50 a snap, it is very pricey as you can get a USB multi card reader for the same price range. It’s a good way to make use of your ExpressCard slot though. World’s First Water-Proof and Dust-Resistant SLR Camera

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [2]

This awfully gaudy contraption of a camera, called the Asahi Pentax LX Gold, is reportedly the world’s first water-proof and dust-resistant SLR camera made by Pentax. We’ll have to excuse its appearance as it is a 60th anniversary model for the company and probably more a collectors item than something we’d all be rushing out for this holiday season. Whether there is any actual gold or if it is even a DSLR is unclear. According to the folks at Aving, the unit was presented at a press conference in Korea, leading us to suspect it is another one of those Korea-market-only releases. No information on pricing and availability. And, I am rather surprised there were no encrusted diamonds. Pentax’s world’s first water-proof & dust-resistant SLR camera [Via: Aving]

Linux on the PS3; Geeks Rejoice

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [0]

Gaming and Linux are among my two real joys in life, and when someone manages to bring them together, I starting pinching myself to wake up. While we knew that Sony was going to allow users to install Linux on the PlayStation 3, no one realized that it would work so well, as the following video shows. The only downside seems to be the low video resolution, but that's what those nifty HDTV things are for! Enjoy the video. [youtube _ZXcuhJkwx4&eurl=]

Westinghouse LCD TV Stockpiled for Black Friday at BestBuy

, Nov 21st 2006 Discuss [2]

Black Friday is just around the corner and I know I’m not going to be a door buster early in the morning, but for those who are looking for Westinghouse LCD TVs, there is a rumor that BestBuy is stocking up a lot of Westinghouse LCD TVs for black Friday.

...they were stocking up for the BF sale already. Counted about 52 of the Westinghouse 32" LCD HDTVs ($479.99, W3213) and 30 of the 42" HDTVs ($999.99, W4207). Also recognized the Advent 15" LCD TV ($129.99), estimated about 30 of them, along with a bunch of other stuff. Funny thing is, they were all labeled "Product not for sale. Hold for customer [Redacted]."
The number of available unit is unusually high for the usual black Friday, but who knows. I would still recommend lining up just in case. Black Friday Watch: Best Buy Edition [via gizmodo]
