Free Music from SpiralFrog, What’s the catch?

Free Music from SpiralFrog, What’s the catch?

Universal music is giving away free downloadable music from their entire catalogue by partnering up with SpiralFrog.com, a New York based company. However the downloaded musics will be protected with DRM. Many of legal music download services such as iTunes offers low cost music but not many offers music. According to TechCrunch they will also offer videos and other digital content. Now here is the part that might give some potential users a let down note, you will be required to login into your account at least once a month in order for your downloaded files to continue working. Why did they make you do that? Well, so that you help them generate revenue by seeing ads on their site. In a way I think that’s kind a fair, free music and I will only need to login once. Not many details at this moment, we’ll post more updates as they release more information.

No Xbox 360 HD-DVD for Asia

No Xbox 360 HD-DVD for Asia

Bad news for any gamers in Asia looking forward to Microsoft's cheap (by comparison) HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360, you might be in for a disappointment. According to Digitimes, Microsoft Taiwan has no plans to launch the long-awaited peripheral in Asia in the immediate future, or quite possibly at all, saying that the area has too small an HD-DVD user base to justify releasing the drive at this time.

Core 2 Duo Coming Soon to Next-Gen Apple Laptop?

I’ve gotten great mileage out of my Macbook Pro so far. However, if you’re dead set on getting an Apple Macbook or Macbook Pro – Richard of Crunchgear suggests that you might want to hold off until September 16. Why wait until September 16? Well he believes that Apple will drop the new machines during the company’s annual Paris Expo. The rumor is, the new Macbook line will sport the same Core 2 Duo CPUs used in the Toshiba and Dells.

Trojan Text Misery

Trojan Text Misery

The fun side of the cellphone is that glossy, upgrading "guess what I've got the latest model" joy of a new toy.  The not-so-fun side is the increasing number of scams that involve conning paranoid SMS users into visiting Trojan-filled websites.

The average SlashGear visitor might think themselves tech-wise enough to avoid getting caught up in this sort of phishing, but can you say the same of your parents or your less tech-savvy friends?  Spread the word, people; unscrupulous people will use whatever means they can to separate the naive from their money.

Frankly Ridiculous Bosch iPod Dock

Frankly Ridiculous Bosch iPod Dock

Perhaps the rest of the reviewing world is too polite, but can we take a moment to laugh loudly and for a damn long time at this brand spanking new Bosch iPod dock.  Seriously, take a couple of minutes to examine the image - a roll cage, blue-lit display, pressed aluminium - and let out that loud guffaw you've been saving for just such a bandwagon jumping, niche chasing monstrosity.

If the sheer ridiculousness of it hasn't put you off, you might want to know that it recharges your iPod during playback (though you have to buy a dock adapter first), is dust & weather resistant and costs $210.

Over-the-door Baby Hook

Over-the-door Baby Hook

One for the slightly twisted parents out there, methinks - an over-the-door offspring sling.  For those times when you're desperate for the toilet and lumbered with the kiddy.

The picture says it all, to be honest, but in case you're reading this via a DOS prompt...  It's a specially-designed hook that goes over the door and lets you harness your 6-18 month child safely above ground, while you busy yourself with your ablutions.

What else can you buy for $59.50 that gives so much S&M-style freedom?

WiFi Digicam saves memory-card space

WiFi Digicam saves memory-card space

The Nikon Coolpix S7c is a 7.1 megapixel digicam that conveniently has on-board wifi to make distributing your photos as easy as throwing a glass of water over a kitten.  Nikon and T-Mobile have decided to help make it even easier - a service called Coolpix Connect which uses the increasingly ubiquitous T-Mobile hotspots to upload up to 50mb of photos a month to a temporary webspace.

I guess the idea is that you can save memory card space by offloading your images periodically, downloading and sorting through them when you're back at home.  And since anybody buying the S7c now will get a year-long subscription to Coolpix Connect, you can't really argue too much.
