Dad turns son's wheelchair into Star Wars snowspeeder for Halloween

Dads that are big fans of Star Wars are turning out to be a very crafty, creative bunch. We've seen not one but two custom rocking horses built, the first being an X-wing, and the second a Speeder Bike. While those two hand-made projects were for very young kids, this latest one is for a child that's a bit older. Ryan Scott Miller's son Jeremy uses a wheelchair, so he built a snowspeeder — the ship the rebels used during The Empire Strikes Back's Battle of Hoth — that fits overtop, just in time for Halloween.

While the snowspeeder is incredibly detailed and lifelike, it's actually made from some very common materials, including PVC piping, foam boards, bicycle brakes, spray paint, and some good old duct tape. The working blasters are even thanks to Nerf guns installed on the inside of the ship. Miller shared a video showing the rig in action.

Speaking to CNet, Miller said to it took about two weeks of work to build, and the design was based on toy snowspeeder models and diagrams found on the internet. "I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid and I would have loved to have something like this, so it makes me giddy-happy to see my son so happy and excited in it," he added.

Turns out, this isn't Jeremy's first epic costume his dad has built around the wheelchair, as past Halloweens have seen Miller build a Batmobile, a pirate ship, and even a TIE Fighter.
