Dell logoThe Vista launch hasn’t exactly been the greatest. Yes, many people have upgraded (myself included), but there are still many people that don’t want to make the switch (again, I’m guilty). It seems that so many people want to stick with XP that Dell has begun to offer Windows XP as on option again on several of their systems

Dell has been listening to customers a lot more lately, first they heard the cry of the public to sell PCs with Linux, now their customers have been asking to purchase PCs with Windows XP instead of Vista. Again, Dell has complied. The statement from Dell was this: “We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings.”

You have to wonder what Microsoft is thinking right now. They just announced that as of January 1 they will no longer offer Windows XP to OEM providers. Will they listen to the masses as well? Or at the end of the year will they turn their back on everyone that doesn’t want Vista on their new machine?

I’m glad you are happy with Vista Tim, i do like Vista to some point, but some of us still have applications that needs to be migrated (in house acocunting, inventory system, and etc) buying new system kind a force us to do migration (running legacy mode in Vista sometimes wont work)

Wisely, Dell should give options for consumer to choose for at least 6 more months

one of my friends is using the vista with his new acer pc, he is quite annoyed with so much security questions asked by the system. I think for a general users, the so called “improvement” in vista doesn’t really useful to them.

My comments should have read …no…no…no – it’s the worst program I have ever used! Unfortunately I hit return before including my comment so please do not consider that previous comment as being affirmative for Vista. XP is adamantly preferred over Vista.
Unfortunately after reading Dell’s decision to change back to XP as their operating system, I called to request this change and was advised by Customer Service I could buy the XP program but Dell would not support XP, they would only support Vista as this is a software problem and not a hardware problem (I have a five-year warranty on hardware). You know, even though when buying this new Dimension E520 Feb 28 2007, receiving it March 9 2007, having more calls to Tech Service and hours and hours on the phone March 13, 17 and 29th are those with dates, resorting to email, then being unable to use this computer for a couple of weeks and having more problems despite having three extra books on Vista, shattered nerves etc… bottom line. I am (like probably many many others) very very disappointed in Dell’s response, especially since five Dell products including the E520 are in this household (I was previously a very strong HP supporter for computers and printers for several years). Big sigh! The response from Dell was very surprising and extremely disappointing especially since XP and not Vista was originally requested for the E520 plus, being a staunch supporter and a repeat customer as I am and have been by recommending Dell products to many many friends and family over the years was not respected. The preference for XP had been indicated to the various Technical Assistants during the course of our telephone conversations and they indicated they were unable to help on that part as Vista was Dell’s operating system. Big sigh! Nevertheless, I do give the Dell Technical Assistants credit and respect for their patience, assistance and understanding. The Assistants have always been very cordial and helpful not only with the E520 but also the other four computers.
