Google’s car, Big Dog and the NASA rovers are very different things. Curiosity slow speed isn’t a navigational software limitation, which is something almost trivial these days.

Four wheel drives don’t need roads, and I was talking about the operating system, not an actual car, so meaning, if they made this martian rover with that operating system, with a splash of Darpa’s big dog (big dog can read the terrain around it and traverse it safely), then you could give it a destination point and it would get there by itself.

as another poster said, without roads its more difficult to go 60-70 mph. The terrain is rough, and we can’t control it from earth in real time. There’s a 14 minute delay in any transmission going to mars, and it takes another 14 minutes for a reply to come back to Earth. That’s 28 minutes from the moment you send the rover a command until the moment it can even so much as tell you it received it. So rather than trolling these sites throwing around baseless accusations at NASA scientists who are all about 1000 times smarter than you or I will ever be, why don’t you just do the smart thing and shut up next time.

Google can make a self operating car that traverse a highway or road and still do the speed limit. Here, its just a desert with a bunch of rocks and it will take NASA a whole day to get 200 metres. God, I’m so bored with this whole mission. Shitty cameras, slow to do anything, boring boring. Now if they used “big dog” from Darpa and blew dirty great holes in the ground, it would be more interesting. Please don’t report anything else about this lame expedition unless there is a photo of a three eyed martian or a martian statue of liberty lying on its side with what’s his name, yelling out, “the fools”
