Crazed gamer buys World of Warcraft character for nearly $10,000

I've been playing World of Warcraft for close to a year now off and on. I've heard of people selling and purchasing items, gold and even characters for real money. Personally, I think they are crazy. It's just a game. Some people must be pretty desperate to make themselves feel good. One guy even paid close to $10,000 for a character.

The actual amount was $9,500. I'll admit, having the Twin Blades of Azzinoth would be awesome. There are supposedly only two people in the game that can boast this. Would I be willing to shell out that kind of money just to get them? Hell no. I wouldn't even pay $100 for it, I like to earn the items I get, thank you very much.

What's better is that Blizzard doesn't take kindly to people making money by selling in-game items and characters. According to several sources, the account has already been banned. I have to ask, was it worth it?
