You are still missing the point a shitty tablet is a shitty gift we all know that but its better than nothing.. That was the original point you replied to.. 

And my point is there are much better ways of showing you care than crappy budget eletronics. It’s not a good use of money. It’s not a good present to give. Is there a rule you have to buy electronics as gifts? That’s now the only way of showing you care?

One year I sat for a couple hours and wrote the most heartfelt letter that I could possibly write to each member of my immediate family to make sure they knew how much they meant to me and why they meant so much to me. My step-dad said he cried he was so touched by what I wrote. I think that’s better than a crappy tablet that barely works.

I would rather people donate money to The Human Fund in my name then get me something that just going to cause me headaches and disappointment.

Maybe it’s a difference in what someone was already using prior Currents, but as a hard core Feedly user (hosts my Google Reader feeds, about 80 of them) on mobile & desktop (feeds viewed are actually synced and marked read), I actually don’t see much or even ANY benefits from it.

And as much as I don’t like samsung and their treatment of existing customers, ill take their crappy outdated tablet over anything apple any day.

I like that it emphasizes that a tablet is really what you make of it. The important thing is size and connectivity. The rest is a matter of preference and can be changed.

If they want to go for the cheap stuff, give me a gift card and I’ll use it to subsidize what I really want.  For instance, my mother-in-law bought me a $150 in Amazon gift cards and a thick magazine filled audio software reviews. She also printed out the webpages of two of the software packages she thought gave you the best bang for your buck.  But she said she wanted to have me make the final decision on what I should get.  Plus she knows how much I like doing research for tech stuff.  So the love is there. The caring is there. The thought is there.  I was actually really touched she would go through all this effort for me.

But hey I guess I should go kill myself because I don’t like people wasting their hard earned money on useless presents.

If have an iPad and need 499,999 apps that make fart sounds, you are good to go with either one of them.

For Christmas, my employer bought us all new iPad2′s.

I sold mine for $450, bought a 7″ Galaxy Tab used for $200, and loaded all the apps I’ve already paid for onto it.  No need to open an iTunes account, do everything through iTunes, re-buy things I already have, and use two totally discrete and opposing platforms.  This way my tablet and phone work together, not on completely different islands from one another.

I’m not complaining my tablet “isn’t quite as good” as the iPad.  I’d gladly trade off a little performance for not being shackled to Apple’s ecosystem, and having compatibility between my open devices.
