Of course it’s going to be more resistant to cracking if it has a film protecting it. I’m assuming this is why the Corning rep refused to use his iphone in the test, because it would expose the naked glass. The demonstration was really a smoke job by Corning and Brian should have called them on it.

But Corning has the marketing strength while the other two do not, hence Gorilla Glass being more popular even though it is it isn’t as good as what the competition is offering.

Hope this iteration brings them on par or better with the competition.

The glass is paper thin and any weight savings would be negligible.

Make the whole phone out of a block of bullet proof glass (with rounded edges to prevent chipping) with all the electronics embedded into it. Would be heavier (and i don’t think by that much due to electronics and battery taking up most of the space internally) but it would look so cool.
