I should mention that it's important that the screen protector not be the average tacky kind. The scribe pen will stick and skip on that kind of surface. I had to get a more matte finish, anti-glare, screen protector so that the scribe could move smoothly over the surface. Once I put that on I had no complaints. The only problem with the tablet (other than price) is the current lack of accessories! Something as simple as a case that holds the pen should have been released at the same time as the tablet.

Ok, well, I bit the bullet and coughed up the $850 for the tablet. I'll tell you now, it is an incredible tablet. Using the scribe is like writing on paper. I picked up an Asus EEE Note a few months ago after playing around with the Flyer and deciding that scribe had a long way to go, I was wrong. HTC got it near perfect on the Jetstream. I can write very small legible notes, record them, and attach them to a calendar item. I wowed my wife the other night by having her sign some forms on the scribe and sending them right to our associate rather than printing them out, signing, and scanning/faxing them. Is the price to high? Oh yeah! But, will you be disappointed in the tablet, no. It keeps impressing me. Also, big surprise, the battery life is amazing. I charged it Saturday evening, gave it a lot of use, and didn't have to charge again until Tuesday morning. I have an EVO 3D, so I know about bad battery life, this wowed me.

HTC really got the short end of the stick by choosing a carrier as a launch partner. Android tablets priced at or near iPad pricing already face an uphill battle, let alone one anchored to a data plan or limited in distribution to 3g models on"America's slowest and last place network". This not a NEW highly desirable "Apple-like" product that consumers will wait in line over! It is just another Honeycomb Tablet with a stylus as a differentiator!

Last gime I checked, th LG TMobile 3D tablet wasn't flying off shelves. Selling a new tablet alongside the 3g iPad at the same price + bonus pen looks real bad. HTC mustbe banking on the Sense and hardcore spec- driven customers who want a faster processor for the smaller library of tablet games.

I take it back, there are a lot of customers who absolutely need immediate access to date and weather.

Outrageous price! Looks like it might be a cool tablet but the price is higher than an iPad2. Maybe if was a quad core but then again it would still be to pricey. Think I'll pass.

Killed? Author, I read your article twice...still don't understand your point. And FYI, styli are bad. Use them for a month then you will understand why they are foolish. Furthermore, non-Apple tablet manufacturers simply think they can get hundreds of dollars for any old Android-type thing. These androids are realistically tier 2 and 3 products that won't sell much unless discounted to circa $200. The manufacturers won't do that, so market penetration will be feeble ... for all of them.

I can think of a few hardware devices that can genuinely compete with the iPad 2, but on entirely subjective terms. The new Galaxy Tab and even the Motorola Xoom are both wonderful devices and are very effective and useful--but they're not for everyone.

If by "compete" you mean sell millions (an objective measure of modern sales "success"), that's not very likely to happen, ever, because the reasons behind iPad uptake and other tablet uptake are night and day.

I think we have to take back ownership of what WE like, find useful, and want, instead of letting manufacturers dictate what we like. A wooden hammer is effective to a point, but an iron hammer can do far more--we just have to figure out how.

I hear what you're saying though.

One thing strikes me with regard to Honeycomb tablet makers and sellers. The marketing and presentation at launch has been dreadfully mishandled; when compared with Apple and the iPad.

I like Android and bought an Archos70 in December 2010 and a Galaxy S2 in May 2011; but even I would not buy a Honeycomb tablet until the following serious bugs are fixed.

1. Show me at least two hardware solutions that can genuinely compete with iPad2.

2. Produce hardware solutions that WILL be properly supported for at least 2 years.

3. Google must launch and prove Ice-Cream without the "always in Beta" curse hanging on it.

So far all these tests have been failed, and the prices are mostly ridiculous.

They should be embarrassed, both HTC and AT&T. Not embarrassed, ashamed!

What is this, just roll over and let Verizon "rule the airwaves"? Plus, AT&T is desperate to become the sole national GSM carrier here in the US.

Chris, use your mighty blogosphere girth and get some hands on videos going. There really aren't any out there.

It really is unfortunate.

I went and played with the Jetstream this afternoon. It is without a doubt my favorite android tablet right now. The stylus actually held up quite well. On the flyer it seemed like nothing came out legible whereas on the jetstream I could write notes with ease (there were some "palm check" issues but once you started writing it picked up on what you wanted to do). The card does mention that the stylus is an $80 stand alone but as said above you are getting it free for a limited time.

The tablet itself was slick and stylish. Good build quality that didn't feel to heavy or to light.

I may just have bought one then and there, if not for the insane pricing.

Hopefully they start slashing soon and slashing big. As it stands now there is no doubt that it is DOA which is sad for such a great tablet.
