Growth is good!
Apple actually grew 1.1%…
…that beats much of the stagnation of 2011 and 2010.
I only appreciate this because Android needs at least one competitor to keep driving innovation.
(Apple needs to start innovating again – one initial “big bang” does not an innovator make… or keep, anyway)

And manufacturers will continue to make their own products with Droid installed. Suggesting that a product needs a major update to prove itself worthy of a market is ridiculous. They’re not going to get any new customers for the new iPhone. No one watched the first iPhone in the glass window and say “I’ll wait until the fifth version.” There will be a major increase in sales then it will slide back down and remain steady. Meanwhile, Droid phones will do the same thing. The point is the long-term. You have to zoom out and look at the whole graph. Droid is doING better than the iPhone even though the iPhone WILL do better than it is now for a short period of time.

And to add to your comment. “It’s all a number game and by selling one phone at a time, Apple is losing that game” Apple selling one iPhone at a time, and apple being in second place according to this statistic shows that they’re strategy is working.. So yeah Google is just looking at ways to try to steel apples spotlight, but so far they’ve failed. Just look at what happened to so called “Google TV”

So Android initially copies Apple innovation? So what? It’s up to Apple, or any other company in any other situation, to take it one step further and stay ahead. It’s all a number game and by selling one phone at a time, Apple is losing that game. That doesn’t make them better. It makes them shortsighted. Google sells more doodads, bottom line. If Apple were to expand and have more products, maybe it would wind up being more successful but until that happens, you can’t just extrapolate an imaginary number to make it look like Apple is some sort of victim. Give us more options and we’ll see how it goes.

Because Android phones are made by a wide number of hardware manufacturers, Apple’s
iPhone beats android and the rest of the “smartphone” market. Apple has only one
phone competing with the rest of the market, imho apple leads the smartphone market.
Just how they lead the tablet market. Apple revolutionized music with the iPod,
the smartphone market with the iPhone, and now the tablet with iPad.
To me all these companies (i.e, Samsung, Google, Microsoft, RIM, etc, etc)
they’re all trying to get a piece of what apple created. Just like this quote goes
“If you can’t innovate (apple), I guess you just imitate (google/microsoft).”

Apple as a company is doing quite well, but as a consumer I do not care.

I want to see development on the platform which tends to favor the larger market share os, that being android.

In the end having competition is good for both devices.

I didn’t know Google was ever an underdog. You make it sound like they were at a disadvantaged position coming into the mobile space. Actually, you do sound a little idiotic like Alex213 states…though he sounds a bit angry. The truth is…Google bought and imitated their way into the space and then tried to bully everyone out by pricing their’s for free.
