I'm totally willing to admit I may be wrong on the whole pipeline thing for your DVR. If so then I'll accept it. But are you telling me that if I dont have xfinity Internet but I do have a DVR/Cable service I can no longer use OnDemand? Cause if I can, then either the DVR has its own internal MAC which is being assigned an IP Address or it is using 2 pipelines. I'll admit I don't know which.

But there is no way that the xfinity app does not use the internet. First of all, I cant even use it without xbox gold. If I am hitting Xbox servers, then by definition I am leaving the xfinity network and hitting the public internet before I reach Microsoft. Xbox live does not live in xfinitys private network, it lives in Microsoft land, and they forward your port streaming request from the xbox servers to xfinity. Just like they do for NetFlix and Hulu. The xbox doesn't have the functionality to operate any other way due to the OS restrictions. It works like a VPN connection or sorts. No internet Xbox traffic goes to or from your house without using xbox servers as a go between. It can connect only to Xbox live and nowhere else. The only reason your xbox wont work in a hotel room is because the app detects who your ISP is via your public IP addy on your modem. If its a non-comcast IP, the app will detect that and spit out an error.

And regardless, the whole point of why people are mad is the fact that Comcast says it caps its bandwidth because if you use too much your neighbor might have to use less because there is only so much bandwidth. Whether I am using the public outer bandwidth or the xfinity private internal bandwitdh that is still an issue. And that makes Comcast a liar.

You are precisely wrong on both counts. "on demand" streaming in digital DVRs have been IP based for YEARS. It uses comcast's private IP to deliver on demand and interactive content.

The Xbox xfinity app does NOT use the Internet. I cannot take my Xbox to a hotel and stream from xfinity, even as a Comcast subscriber. I can't even use a second (redundant) Internet connection in my home, such as DSL or satellite. The Xbox must be connected to my subscribed Comcast broadband connection to use the xfinity app. Why? Because content is streamed via the Comcast private IP network and never sees the larger Internet
In other words, both devices, DVR and Xbox, use the same private network. Not the Internet, hence no net neutrality.

Clearly YOU don't understand how this works. The article called it a "loophole" (biased reporting if I ever read it) but the entire thing runs on their private IP network.

If I build a private racetrack, I can let my friends race go-karts for free and charge others. Completely legit.

This system DOES NOT use the Internet. I cannot take my Xbox, as a Comcast subscriber, to my friends house or on vacation and stream content, unlimited or otherwise, because that WOULD use the Internet.

The difference between xfinity and the Netflix/Hulu use case is the latter uses Comcast's own upstream bandwidth, that they in turn pay to maintain. Xfinity does not. So it is not only technically different, it does have legitimate financial differences to Comcast's business model as well.

What is it about you guys on the left and your constant low-blows? There’s tons of things to criticize our idiot politicians about (how about CISPA?), and you always pick the dirtiest, most unfair things you can find. And if you aren’t a “guy on the left” I take that back but you’re still a jerk.

BTW- I remember McCain said he never used email before, and he was running for president. I also remember when Dubya left the White House he said he was trying (and I quote) "The Google".
