Comcast says half of US homes to have HDTVs by end of 2009

I bet there are lots of people out there who received nice HDTVs for Christmas this year. The holiday season is one of the most common times for people to get a new HDTV. Comcast has announced that half of the homes in the US will have HDTVs by the end of the year.

The key here is that Comcast is reminding everyone that they need HD service to go along with it. Don't be like the woman up the street from me who bought a new HDTV and then watches it with basic cable and brags about how good the picture is.

Comcast says that only 36% of HDTV owners are told how to receive HD programming when they buy their new TVs. You might not need cable or satellite in your area to get HD programs if you have local affiliates with OTA broadcasts.
