Codemasters has more mobile games in pipeline after Colin McRae Rally release

The developer behind the popular racing series such as GRID, F1, and DiRT released their second-ever mobile game yesterday, called Colin McRae Rally, which is based on the original title that was released some 15 years ago. Codemasters' Vice President of digital business Gary Rowe says that gamers should expect a few more games from the developing studio in the future.

Speaking with VG247, Rowe says that Codemasters has "four other games in full production for the forthcoming months. Beyond this, our roadmap is pretty full for the next two years." Rowe didn't specify titles for these games, but they will be a mix of new titles, as well as "re-imaginings" of current Codemasters games.

The iOS version of Colin McRae Rally was made in the Unity engine, and while the game has the same title as the 1998 version of the game, its content is based on the sequel, Colin McRae Rally 2.0, that released in 2000. Rowe says that three of Codemasters' four upcoming mobile titles are being developed in Unity, with the fourth running on the Ego engine, which powers many of their recent games, including their newest GRID 2.

Colin McRae Rally allows you to compete on 30 stages totaling over 130 kilometers of track in different locations around the world, including the Australian outback, mountains of Greece, and winding roads in Corsica. The game includes on-screen steering controls, as well as the ability to steer the more-natural way using the built-in gyroscope and accelerometer. You'll have your pick at some classic rally cars as well from the original game, including the Ford Focus, Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, and the Lancia Stratos.

Gamers will also get to be co-piloted while they drive around, and you'll be treated with voiced race notes by professional rally co-driver Nicky Grist. As for different game modes, you'll have your pick at a quick race, single stages, rallies, or an "extensive Championship" series. The game requires an iPad 2 or newer, iPhone 4S or 5, or a 5th-gen iPod Touch. As for price, the game will cost you $4.99.
