The problem with this capture system is that it takes literally millions of years to make coal out of plants and trees dying and getting buried and turned into these "underground slabs" but we burn said slabs in hours or days every week. We need a fast way to put coal back where we need it, be it the ground for storage or power plant boilers for making more electricity... of course we are fat...

I find it funny that the same opponents of coal are quick to judge any coal company that attempts to make efforts to improve emissions. It just goes to show that these opponents don't really care about the environment - they just want to starve us from energy. The worst nightmare for coal opponents would be if the coal industry actually did come up with a zero emissions, earth-friendly solution. What would they complain about then?

To the doubters, what is wrong with a coal company making this kind of breakthrough? Industries have their own journals, and as a rule do not publish in academic journals. Coal is one quick law away from being banned in many places. Finding a solution is in their best interests. CO2 is commonly used in industry, being able to store it for later use is wonderful.

Warmer air + Warmer Oceans + Increased atmospheric energy whipping H2O into the atmosphere = Increased atmospheric H2O.
Plus let us not forget Methane is more potent than either and is being released in increasing amounts by melting permafrost, also by rotting plant material and as a plant byproduct.
I won't say good luck, just adapt to the consequences of our choices

A method for capturing carbon emissions that involves sunlight - Brilliant!
Is it a tree, grass, shrubbery? Does it convert or permanently store it?
Nope. It's a manmade, multi-$million waste of time. If the emissions are just going straight back into the air, you'd think the tempory capture would be dirt cheap and maybe have an added benefit like Algenol Biofuels.

this stuff always creeps me out a little. we already have a perfect carbon capture system, whereby truly freakish amounts of nearly pure carbon are locked away in gigantic underground slabs known as "coal". yet like fat people sneaking snacks, we keep trying to imagine that we can reap the benefits of combining some of it with oxygen, and stick the far less stable product back in the ground without anybody noticing

A coal company funded this? No wonder the results look promising, for the coal industry! We just need to stop burning it. Maybe they should spend more time researching what other uses are viable. Keeping the public thinking there's a solution to carbon capture "just around the corner" will keep us from doing anything, ever!

Bingo sk8. Plus once the C is released from the MOF where must it go? That's right, into the atmosphere! There is still no place safe to put the released C, you've just momentarily delayed its release into the environment. Do they really think we are that stupid?
