only problem seems to be that nokia have scrambled the keyboard layouts in the N900 out of the box. I know some people are working on correcting that, but i sure hope nokia see the value of such a feature, and fix it in one of their updates.

or maybe they are planning a E-series version of maemo devices.

and funny enough, i think the N900 is currently able to make use of xorg over ssh, vnc or even RDP (remote access windows).

heck, what citrix is pushing is basically xorg for windows, if one look at it in a simplified fashion. X windowing have been able to make whole desktops or individual programs available over any network connection since day one, as it was basically a GUI replacement for terminal access to big iron computers running a unix variant.

so all in all, welcome back to the future...

It's actually a different setup altogether, Jeromeo. The Citrix system doesn't actually run the OS on the phone itself - it's running remotely, back at your office or home, perhaps, or on a blade server somewhere. All the phone is doing is acting as a thin-client, giving you a local display and peripherals; the phone itself does none of the desktop crunching. That means you can do heavy-duty work - run full applications, process video, etc - because you're doing it on a full system, not on a smartphone chipset. The reason the Nirvana phone specifications aren't as high as, say, the N900's is because all the handset need do is give you a "window" onto your primary machine.

Hope that makes sense.

I don't need to wai for Citrix to leave my laptop at home; I bought a Nokia N900 in November 2009.
I can connect it to any tv or monitor, bluetooth keyboard/mouse, and multimultitask with Adobe Flash built into the browser. This prototype idea will have poorer specs than my old device. Progress...
