Chronos slow mo camera makes 21,000 fps more affordable

Forget your smartphone's 120 fps slow motion feature. This little camera can shoot at 21,600 frames per second! Of course at a very low resolution. But even at 1,000 fps, the Chronos 1.4C already offers an impressive capability, which is all the more made impressive by what would be its price tag. Yes, $2,500 isn't exactly cheap by any means, but it's still considerably more accessible compared to similar cameras offering the same capabilities at a mind-blowing $30,000.

You're probably not going to buy one just to create your next viral YouTube video. Unless, of course, your business actually depends on that kind of thing. While definitely useful for whimsical things, cameras such as these are usually employed for more professional work, sometimes even scientific ones. Hence the usually exorbitant price tag.

The Chronos 1.4C is being billed as a game changers because of how it makes such an equipment readily available even to amateurs. The very same amateurs or budding professionals that spend thousands on camera equipment or drones. The size, which isn't that much larger than DSLRs, also make it portable, though it's definitely twice as heavy than such consumer cameras.

That's the price to pay to be able to shoot at 21,600 frames per second. That said, at that speed, you can only capture videos at a resolution of 640x96. The highest it can go is 1280x1024, but at that resolution, the frame rate drops to 1,057 fps. The camera is mostly driven through the touch screen that nearly occupies its entire back. It's not the prettiest interface out there, but it just works.

Sadly, the Chronos 1.4C is not something you can buy yet, nor in the very near future. It will first stop by crowdfunding platform GoFundMe, though the exact date hasn't been revealed yet.
