I'm confused. Besides changing the navigation, how is the functionality shown any different from the current Chrome OS?

That looks pretty cool actually. I've been using ChromeOS on a netbook for a bit but then went back to Ubuntu after a while because I was still missing some features. With a real desktop/windows manager I could totally see myself giving it another go though.

I hate to say it but I agree. HTML5, WebGL, and the google native code project are not going to be ready to be competitive for two or three years. What I think will end up happening is that chromeOS and android will merge with the web app functionality of chromeOS being built into android. By doing this, web view apps would no longer suck and as the tech progresses, all android apps could slowly be replaced with crossplatform web apps. The idea being that the apps perform so fluidly that the end user wouldn't even know it is web based. Updates would no longer need to be supplied by the play store and processing could be offloaded to external servers freeing resources for the OS and UI to perform better.

This, of course is dependant on the proliferation of high speed wireless networks which is already starting and the maturation of web technologies.
