Staying connected to your home through your phone or PC was a cool thing I saw at CES this year. I'm not sure when we'll see it, but the smart home will soon be on the rise, it seems; especially the smart grid: http://www.energyinyourlife.com/article.php?t=100000199

i hate to jump in on this, but what the hell, Mr Kulls, your an idiot. The traffic in Vegas is crazy, especially during CES, and other such expos which happen often in Vegas. I lived there for a year and anywhere near such an event i can say traffic was horrible, and the people of vegas are brave if not a little insane. as far as the article coming off as complaining, I don't see that, nor do i see how anyone would, He simply explains how hectic but fun it can be. which is the case for any expo, journalist or simple attendee, And though i agree that editorial /personal peices are not Mr, Sellecks strong suit. his news articles always seems well written. The fact you had the time to write all the responses and complaints amazes me and makes me think you must be unemployeed, to have such free time to argue about one mans personal experience on a tech site. Kudos to you sir. you have shown us all up with your wit, and tons of free time. why not take some of that time, and find a job.

Yeah, what he said, ya "sausage!"

I'm kidding. Either way, I did see it as a bit ranty, and Mr. Selleck does seem like a picky eater, but it still gave me some good insight into something I will probably never attend.

I love you all, sausage-y or not.

Welcome to the world of journalism.. You can't take the criticism then you shouldn't we writing. Period! You shouldn't be defending him. Read any blog, news or journalist site you like. This is an every day basis thing. This is a opinion based country and is highly critical of things like this. I personally don't think a personal blog entry should be on this site as a column. Just because he is a first timer doesn't change the fact it should not be posted on Slashgear.

"At least he has given me a realistic look at what it may be like for someone attending the CES event. As a blogger yourself then perhaps you should show a bit more support instead of being such a sausage about things?"

I would if it was a more realistic blog. I have never had any of the issues he speaks of at CES myself. As for comparing traffic to Chicago and NY? Proves right there he has never been to those cities. Most of the bloggers love being there and usually don't complain about much. I have never had a problem with Wi-Fi unless i'm using a lot of bandwidth. As for the food? Food isn't that bad at all. He is obviously a first timer to this show.

Really miss the good ole days of good writers, that actually told stories worth reading. Why do all these young kids think they can write? I mean this is the era everyone is blogging. I remember when it was required to have a degree to do these things. Now it seems all these young people think they can write. Really blows me away!

"I am a pretty young guy, but thankfully I’m not lazy, and actually spent my time after high school accomplishing things."

Doesn't seem as if you get away from the computer. When I conduct a Google Search it comes up with many video game, and blog sites. Sounds to me you sit in front of the computer and tv more then most people. I mean your job is a blogger which requires being at a computer a high percentage of your career. Now I am a blogger myself in my spare time, and will admit we are all lazy because of what we do. A real hard working job also does not consist of retail either. A real job meaning "Real Labor" or "Manual Labor" which you seem to have not experienced.

First and foremost, I don't actually say my job is hard. In fact, if you made it to the end of the article, I say how much I want to do it again, and that it was worth every second. By pointing out the facts of the show, that there's hit-or-miss food, long walks (not on a beach), and crazy traffic isn't me saying that anything is hard. It's what I observed while I was in Las Vegas at CES.

I'm wondering what you may define as a "real" job. I look at a retail job, where someone restocks shelves, or the cellphone business where they help customers all day, or the restaurant business where someone's on their feet all day helping customers. Or, maybe you mean customer support over the phone.

If you mean any of those things, then yes, I've done that. For a long while, in most of those cases. So, to answer your ignorant question, yes, I have "worked a real job."

If you don't mean those, and perhaps you mean something like the United States military, then yes, I've done that too.

Here's my recommendation for you: don't take such a column, which is obviously meant to make light of a show like CES for someone who's taking their first visit there. Here's a second one, for good measure: if you don't like my writing, stop reading it.

Oh, and about that book: you read a book that was written by a high school student, and you helped pay for the Senior graduation party, so thanks a bunch!

I must say a post like this makes me scratch my head. Why are you a writer? Have you ever worked a real job? My take is you probably haven't. This article is a constant complaint rant by you, and how your job is so hard. Really? You know how many individuals die and want to have a job like this? So instead of ranting about traffic, food, walking and Wi-Fi. How about being fortunate you have something like this. I have read your one and only book, and it does not surprise me to read most of your articles leaving such a poor taste in my mouth. Come on Slashgear please have someone with more experience write about such a brilliant show like this one.
