Casio brings wider angle for landscape and structure fans at CES 2008 with the addition of new EXILIM zoom duo Ex-Z200 and Ex-Z100. The announcement doesn’t strike us like their big brother, 12 mp EX-Z1200 announced back in May 2007. It uses a mere 10.1 mp CCD sensor with new feature of zoom series first to use 4x optical zoom 28 – 112mm, 35mm equivalent zoom lenses at F2.6 to F5.8. Movie mode is supported from 320×240 up to 848×480 in additional to a YouTube capture mode.
Additional features worth mentioning is the newer super clean, high res. 959×240, 2.7 inch LCD display, CCD shift anti shake (only with Ex-Z200) and motion blur detection. It takes SD/SDHC, MMC,MMC plus with varies of color to choose from. They have black, red, blue, silver, maroon and pink for those looking for a cute digital camera to match with their shoe. The pair will be available from March 2008 at $279.99 and $329.99 for EX-Z200.

Apertures (Fstops, “F2.6 to F5.8″) are not “equivalents” as they do not change from camera to camera. They are calculated based on the ratio of the diameter of the iris to the focal length of the camera. Focal lengths, i.e. Zoom Range, is what you meant to specify the 35mm equivalent for. Millimeters for zoom mean different things depending on the film or chip size of a particular camera (which varies wildly in the digital imaging world), which is why 35mm (the most prevalent film type ever) is used to give people an idea of what the arbitrary milimeter values mean for each particular camera.

I should have said “4x optical zoom 28 – 112mm (35mm equivalent zoom range) with aperture at Fx-Fx should be more accurate. Thanks for the correction and 101 on photography.
