Your argument would be sound if these were designed from the ground up every time a new version comes out but for cannon that is not the case.

The EOS body has been around for a long time, the new features are what R&D had to come up with and it wasn't like going from Polaroid to Full frame sensors overnight. They didn't have to write the OS from scratch they simply changed the UI and added new features.

The EF lenses are still the same and there is nothing new there, not to mention that they are a separate product.

That leaves the CMOS sensor and what ever software changes they made.

The price of the CMOS is directly connected to the price of wafer printing technology, Most CMOS are built on 200mm wafers and the price of those have dropped by 10% in this year alone. Many and companies are moving to 300mm technology which lets them increase the number of CMOS they can print on that wafer. But you increase the number of CMOS sensors you can print on one wafer and if they slimed it down any they managed to lower the costs even further on a per sensor basis.
