Put the lens cap on adjust your settings to get the best reading on the meter ( it’s completely dark so you wont get +- 0 ) then press the ‘light’ button to illuminate the top lcd. On my mkIII it goes up one full stop. This was done in a dark room with the lens cap on. I can’t imagine this would produce a completely black photo in actual shooting conditions as some have claimed.

I’m so sick of Canon’s first issue cameras. I got one of the first 5dMKII’s and it never focused, total piece of rubbish. I got one of the first 5DMKIII”s and it failed to work at a wedding the next day, even after all the basic testing with it the day before. Glad I had a back up! The shop replaced it the following day, but it didn’t help my wedding. I should just stick to my 1 series bodies and ignore the hype over the Prosumer bodies. I love Canon gear but you don’t hear of this stuff with Nikon. How hard is it to put a camera through it’s paces before you release it to the public?

Its not only dark situations and backlight. The same thing happens when sunlight hits the display, a shift in exposure. Its not only dark situations as the sun hitting the display will shift the exposure also. Canon, WE HAVE A PROBLEM! After the recent focusing issues and now a high priced camera with exposure issues, Nikon is looking good. I’ve invested thousands and thousands of dollars in Canon gear. I’m selling it and switching to Nikon. I’ve rode the bus long enough with Canon. If you ever get your manufacturing and designs to conform, maybe, just maybe I’ll be be back. Once I get a hold of a Nikon, I doubt it.
