Cool? I get it. Is that why over 80% of iphone sales in my country consists of the base model and secondary market for used iphones? I've been around iphones since they've been available in my country and most users here do not know how to maximize their user experience of the product beyond telephony, text messaging, games, web surfing and uploading to social networks. In that order. Things you could do on any smartphone for some time now. If "cool" is how apple wants to differentiate itself, then they're entitled to that but cool is way over rated and beginning to get a bit long in the tooth.

I came from a different product. Great pics, tethering, offline navigation, the ability to impress your friends by having any song you want come out on any radio you have access to, expandable memory, usb plug and play, no dropped calls, being able to survive several accidental drops without damage, being able to hear who I'm talking to incoming or outgoing and not cutting out for some inexplicable reason like the stars being out of alignment (looking at you, iphone 4!)? I know its sooo not cool. It's so not cool, that I sold my (then latest and greatest) apple product and went back.

No. If Microsoft wants to be cool, it must first fire Steve Ballmer.

Mr Ballmer has tarnished MSFT's reputation, not just with his words and antics, but also with massive product fails under his watch: Kin, Zune, Bing, Win Vista, WP7.

Be honest: Steve Ballmer still has his job because he's Bill Gates' buddy. I'm not going to say it's cronyism... but it is pretty close.

Discard the shouty, balding, fat used car saleman, then you can start thinking about how to be cool.

Either you are very Pro-Apple or a troll. Windows can get a lot done, and for me: a LOT more than Mac OSX has. Most of my applications are Windows only. The closest Mac equivalent is lacking so much, it's not even an option. I prefer Windows, but I will use a Mac for general (non-work) things: web, email, social networks, twitter, word processing, and stuff like that.

Windows has a much, much larger gaming market than Apple. But, Microsoft is definitely more business than Apple. I'd say Windows was more for both than Apple, and that's why they have the majority market share. Apple may be for fun, but Windows is for fun AND business.

I don't want to see a "cool" CEO from MS. I want to see someone who can take charge and get excited about new technology and actually push it, rather than hide it because it isn't professional. Jobs was a marketer, not a cool guy. Gates wasn't a cool guy, but he was a nerd. Ballmer is neither. He's a salesman and a bean counter. He's not a nerd, he's not a marketing genius.

@gorgeousninja:disqus
It's a shame you are only creative based on the tool you have. By your logic, you are saying that no one who has a Windows machine can be creative or an entrepreneur? Last I checked, the tools do not define creativity, the person does.

For those of us who aren't doing some kind of art/graphics or music, the iPad and company are reduced to just toys. You can't give an auto mechanic a needle and thread and expect him to do his job, can you?

spending emotional energy "hating" and actively campaigning against Apple or for Microsoft is really a battle of egos and defening one's purchase decisions more than it is about the merits of company's political eistance. (as if Apple is an evil entity run by demons). People pick the merits of products they wish to ignore and which they deem worthy in oreer to defend their opinion.
"Cool" is difficult to define in the sense of brand marketing. it is a combination of product, consumer vs. enterpise, CEO (Balmer and Gates press pics never look good), legacy reputation, etc. Microsoft means many things to different people. For me, microsoft is the imposed OS that my company forced on me after eeciding to go with PCs and relieve us of our macs. since I do a lot of ppt, i hated the transition because external monitor donnects just WORK on macs, whereas on PC, Windows takes more tweaking. plus, MS is anchored to a POS Dell, so my "image" of Microsoft is NOT how Atheletes view MS and XBox. which brings me to my next point. if MS dominated console gaming, how xlosely is the Mivrosoft btand associated to XBox? probably not top of mind, and neither is the ugly image of Steve Balmer.

Microsoft is ultimately defined by its position as the dominant PC operatong syatem on the planet that the majority of people on the planet is using by will or by force, but not by DESIRE. Microsoft is not necessarily top of jind when someone decides to buy an HP Envy laptop or Dell Alienware gaming computer, unlike Apple products. The hardware that MS resides in is what is interpreted as "cool", but not the OS. Apple is not defined by an OS, but buy the enitire product, including its OS, followed by the consumers, cool, famous, or ugly, using them. I don't think consumers get an image of Steve Jobs and wanting to be associated with him when they spend their dollars on an Apple product, although there is a rabid fan base that contributes to the Apple brand and mystique around him. Nobody walks into a Best Buy or even Microsoft store looking for Microsoft products except for IT professional. COOL isn't even in the equation

(as if Apple is an evil entity run by demons). People pick the merits of products they wish to ignore and which they deem worthy in oreer to defend their opinion.

That's a pretty stupid answer. Sorry to say. But if you actually ever walked around in organizations with your Ipad or even Android Tablet and would ask the people actually doing the job there to use your pad for their work, 5% would be happy, 30% confused and 65% would shake their heads. The 5% would use it as a gaming device, 30% are wondering how to manage their projects, documents, SAP/ERP with the pad ('s tiny screen etc etc) and 65% just know it's bullshit you're saying. The creatives and entrepreneurs, yes; because they created online/techy business suitable for pads.

Think out of your cubic box, think what others really can do with it. Try to imagine yourself behind a desk, editing all data in those enterprise data systems. Then, think again. Your ipad? Yeah, to play with during coffee breaks. It's a fun device, with some functional aspects.

Current pc users are a dying breed. Big icons, apps, and touch screens are taking over.

Its just a matter of time. Anyone who deals with MS on a volume license level can tell you, the company sucks. Almost impossible to deal with.

MS you are killing yourself, you should really start being SUPER nice to the people that still cut you checks. The google could and the iCrap stuff really threaten you reason to exist.

Back in the 90's before you probably got a Mac, Apple could get away with charging more because their CPU's were different to what Windows PC's ran, i.e. they had 'PowerPC' chips, and were pretty much custom made. Now, considering Mac's share the same processors and pretty much all other internal parts as Windows PC's, yes, they are overpriced.
You obviously never owned a Mac in the 90's which was what i was referring to as shit, but they have improved now which I wasn't talking about. If you think MacOS is great because it was designed not to get virus' then sadly your knowledge is somewhat limited, MacOS' marketshare is only about 6-7% worldwide, its the fact they're harder to target. If you want to know how secure a Mac is, do a quick google on hacking competitions, Mac's are faster to hack into, mainly because Apple never HAD to take security that seriously. Software is OK but not great, window management and finder is below explorer, and they screwed up expose with Mountain Lion, which imo was what kept them above explorer. Yes Apple has the best consumer support, but the price you save is still a lot more. The fact you also say MacOS barely crashes shows your lack of experience with Mac's in general, we use Mac at work, and when I was at uni, barely crashes? Ive had more crashes on Mac's than my home computer running Windows 7. XP only a few times, but not as much.
So please, I understand you are a Microsoft-hater, but please, your opinion is that of a recent mac-user with hardly much experience in using both OS'.

I'm an Apple hater. Not really, but I am pro-Microsoft. I have to agree with you on the first part. Apple computers don't run a shit OS, not really ever. It's always been a top notch OS. My biggest thing with Apple is this: it's not a tool I can use for my problems. I have a phillips screw and Apple is a slotted screwdriver. Windows is the phillips screwdriver. That's it. Mac OS is an excellent OS. Mac hardware is very great and made with great quality. Slightly overpriced, but you do get what you pay for. High quality machines that run a great OS.

However, Windows computers can be virus free, has some amazing software, and has some amazing customer support. Also, Windows 7 has yet to crash on me. Even from the beta period. But, given the 90+% market share, it is bound to have viruses. They target the most damage. Also, given the much greater hardware choices, Windows has more chances to crash (majority is due to a driver issue). Microsoft is not in the PC hardware industry - only software (I'm talking systems, not mice, keyboards or Xbox). They build for other peoples hardware. Apple makes their own hardware and their OS to run on that specific hardware. Put it on anything else (even BSD compatible) and it crashes even more often than Windows. So, while Windows isn't perfect, it has a lot more to take into consideration.

I don't own a Mac, just because I'd only use it for web and email. Too costly for that simple of a device. I've used them and don't mind them at all. Just not for me. But, you can't call someone out for bashing Apple and saying their opinion doesn't matter because of it - then go on to bash Windows. What's that say about your opinion? :)

It`s a shame you're not creative or an entrepreneur then isnt it? The people that seem to really enjoy the ipad tend to be one of these two types. You only have to check out how many amazing music making apps are now on the ipad to know that pretty much every musician has either got an iPad or needs to get one. Some cool businesses are also using the iPad in some amazing ways from interactive menus and books to building design.
I'm sure your laptop fits a lot better in your cubicle though.

Android still isn't as polished at the iPhone. I love Android a lot better than Apple, but it still isn't as stable or simple as the iPhone. Android is a great power user OS, though! I have custom ROM's on my tablets (CM7).

I played with my ipad for a year and then it just became unappealing. It's just not as functional as alaptop.

ipod- pointless

iphone- android's as good and better in some cases.

Until someone comes out with something truly revolutionary, these hardware and minor software tweaks will continue to bore me.

OLD PEOPLE? Get real, Apple computers are much easier to use and understand, Microsoft computers are not. Plain and simple. What is your definition of old, over 30? For the elderly AOL was the easiest thing for them. My parents who just both passed away could not seem to use any computer or system that was browser and app related, the AOL package was perfect for them. I miss them. I'm going to be elderly some day and so are you. I help in the Senior Center and nursing home to help the elderly learn how to use computers, many are given rides by the Senior Bus and are in wheel chairs, over 70 and surprisingly and pleasantly intelligent and are quick to learn. It's delightful to watch and help them. Try it you might like it.
