Call of Duty: Black Ops was Reportedly the Most Pirated Game in 2010

While publisher Activision and developer Treyarch are busy dealing with a bunch of angry customers on Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console, it looks like a lot more than a few individuals out there decided that, instead of buying the game, they'd rather download it from the Internet. Not that that slowed down the sales of the game at all, considering it managed to amass $1 billion in the short time it has been out in global sales. But, with the numbers we're seeing here, it's almost staggering to think how much bigger it could have been.

The report comes from BitTorrent news site TorrentFreak, which has been watching over the numbers. Call of Duty: Black Ops managed to beat out heavy contenders like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Mafia II, and Mass Effect 2. All of which were available for the PC. Black Ops reached a staggering 4.2 million downloads, while the closest competitor (Bad Company 2) was downloaded 3.96 million times.

The numbers aren't as high for the Microsoft Xbox 360 version, but they're still high. Treyarch's title was downloaded a total of 930,000 times for the 360. However, it wasn't the most downloaded title, as Dante's Inferno managed to grab the crown this year. This isn't good news for Treyarch or Activision, but something they probably expected.
