So after spending $200 on the hardware (which still can’t play content from Hulu or Amazon, and won’t let you organize your own content), $50 for the adapter, and $100+ for an external hard drive Boxee will graciously allow you to use your $350 worth of hardware as a DVR for a mere $5-15/mo.

Or you can buy an inexpensive PC and get all the same functionality with no subscription costs and no waiting around hoping Boxee will fix the rampant bugs and add features that have been promised for 2 years.

Tough choice.

So Boxee veils itself as a hero in “cordcutting”, but then wants to become a dvr subscription service? Sounds like boxee is no better than the folks it claims its saving us from.

I agree. What boxee users want is a free DVR service that is compatible with either an external hdd or a new boxee with internal storage.

This idea that you need to pay for DVR is outdated and needs to go away. I already have a tuner with my antenna that hooks up to my comp and I don’t pay a dime to record anything. I’m only limited by the space on my HDDs.
I’d still much rather do that than pay fees even if it’s slightly more convenient to use a Boxee or whatever.

Watch your feeds with VLC and use the record feature instead of paying yet another service.
