Despite designing quality cars, the BMW engineers have a long string of major design failures. Exploding oil separator unit on M52TU motors that can lead to a cracked block, weak rear subframe mounting points on e36 and e46, plastic sunroof carriers that warp and lock the sunroof in place, ABS control unit right beside the headers getting faulty very quick due to the high heat, or fluid washer bottles catching fire as they are located close to the headers. These are only exemples among 100 design flaws (what about the thermal reactor in late 1970s M30 motors that cracked heads). The recall is not a courtesy they are offering their clients, but a way to avoid getting sued and lose more money. Good job BMW.
