This guy did have a lot of guardian angels.

300 km/h is an incredible speed. And some traffic participants don't think or don't look in the mirror when they change lanes, they are sleep-driving, believing they are the only ones on the road. Some just change lanes on purpose just "to teach a lesson" to the other guy.

A friend had very fast sports car and he took me on ride on the Autobahn with that kind of speed. This is more like bungee jumping than driving.

I bet the guy who survived this accident will get a fast car asap, don't think he learned from that accident.

Anyways, the M5 is a nice car :-)

Yeah I thinkit's hard to blame the guy who merged without more details. I mean if he flat out cut him off that's something, but you're exactly right, at that speed it would be very easy not to even see the BMW on a clear stretch of road. Not to mention that anyone pushing a car into unreasonable speeds, should realize they're taking a risk with their life (and quite possibly the lives of others).

What state did you move from that had these additional requirements? Texas, where I'm from, don't require much to obtain a DL. Hell, the amount of illegals and uninsured driving our roads makes it a gamble, worse than playing Russian Roulette.

Some of the worst drivers in Dallas area, Taxi drivers. A majority of them don't adhere to the rules of driving. I kid you not, they drive at under speed limit on the left lane. Majority of cab drivers are of foreign descent, usually middle eastern. They're perfect examples of how easy it is to obtain DL's in our state.

I feel your pain. The state I grew up in has extensive driver's education requirements including required time on a skid pad so you can learn how to control loss of traction on ice and prevent a bad situation from becoming a terrible situation and similar evasive driving techniques. Also, you are required by law in my state to be at highway speed before merging onto a highway and will get ticketed for obstructing traffic if you are in the passing lane when there is faster traffic behind you.

Moved to a different state recently, none of those rules apply and it drives me crazy.

Not in the USA. It's already bad enough American's lag in driver education and etiquette compared to developed European countries. American's don't realize left lane is for passing only (i.e. you drive fast in the left lane).

I'm sure China or any developing countries new to automobiles wouldn't want something like this either. Traffic fatalities are already bad enough with poor driver's ed and crappy infrastructure... on top of that, poor safety in automobiles available to those countries.

Even with no speed limit, when is it really safe to do 186mph on a public road? Yes, the other person driving the car shouldn't have merged into his lane, but do you realize how quickly a person travels doing 186mph? For all you know, the other person checked his rearview and side mirrors and didn't see anything but a clear lane to merge. While this other guy's doing warp speed on the highway and quickly approaches into view right after the mirror check.

Trust me. You take a huge gamble on a public road doing high triple digits. I've seen and participated in 186mph+ flybys in both sportbikes and automobiles. The guy in the M5 was lucky he didn't wrap the car on a lamp post or a tree, or else we wouldn't be reading about him surviving the wreck.
