It is confusing times for consumers looking to buy a new player for next-gen discs, as the war between HD DVD and Blu-Ray rages on. However, some companies are playing it safe by not choosing sides, leading to many great announcements for 2007. LG is announcing their release of hybrid next-gen players while Warner Brothers is announcing their plans to release the first hybrid movie discs, known as TotalHD.

All these developments attempt to eliminate the fear of obsolescence that has been turning away many potential early adopters, stalling the widespread adoption of high-definition, and showing poor sales for next-gen products.

Details on LG’s hybrid players as well as the availability of Warner Bro.’s hybrid movie discs will remain a mystery until their full reveal at the upcoming CES.

Add in some would-be holographic disc and the bottom line is clear– it’s all too much for a consumer to take! Just say “to hell with it!” and stick w/ your SD (standard disc) DVD format which will look practically AS GOOD on your HD theater!

I work in the HT Dept. @ Best Buy.. SD is nowhere near an HD Disc quality. It is only 1/3 – 1/2 the resolution High Def DVD’s.

    SD DVD resolution:
    720 x 480
    8.4gb/ per disc (dual layered)

    HD DVD resolution:
    1920 x 1080
    15gb/per layer
    30gb (Dual layer)

Please do some research before CLAIMING something and using CAPS.. what exactly is an HD theater anyway do you mean High Definition Television/ or HD Flat Panel?

lastly, do NOT add in holographic versatile disc in the whole High Definition DVD battle royal. Because this this type of optical storage will be primarily be used for storage means.. mainly for commercial use NOT consumer use.
