I kept hearing this since launch and then finally played with one over the weekend myself. It’s really not that bad. Pictures I took looked nice and crisp and there was almost no delay between photos… I mean, if it wasn’t for a bunch of self prescribed “experts” on the internet whining about how much the camera sucked, as a regular joe, I wouldn’t have noticed. In fact, I would have thought it was pretty good.

Burns makes a good point, especially having seen press events launching new devices and operating systems. There was no “value add” and focus on what is different and advantageous about the Z10. Homing in on the first target- enterprise + personal is a differentiator, but no strategy as to how to get users and enterprise alike to adopt the Z10 having abandoned the older OS or is reluctant to change. A transition incentive would be good to have.

BB STILL has more market share than Windows Phone. BB10 Initial demand is high in the UK and Canada (where it’s launching prior to arriving in the US). No one knows the future, but signs look good.

BB has a lot of money in reserves, so BB is not in a bleak position. The issue is that BB seems to be making the same horrid decisions as they did in the past.

- Bad PR (i.e. lack of communication with the normal consumer vs corporate clients)
- Bad deployment strategy (i.e. Delays in launch markets)

Factor this with a close minded BB loyalist community who will not tell Blackberry any issues or problems about their version 1.0 phones. Listen to me, FIND the issues with version 1.0 now so Blackberry can make a product that competitors cannot complain about.

I’m a BB fanboy and it baffles the mind why my BB community will not help Blackberry make the a better version 2.0 phone that can actually compete with Android/iOs

lol, what the heck are you on, not once did I mention profits. I will quote my comment just so that you READ it properly, “those speculators/investors is what Blackberry (the company) needs to fund operations in order to make future “better” phones.”

Stocks effect underlying operations (i.e. getting funding, establishing position vs competitors, consumer confidence which leads to more investments).

Blackberry even stated themselves that they need to position themselves as a competitor in the smartphone market, having a falling stock does not help with that goal.

That have 4 more devices coming before the end of 2013. And 99% of the public doesn’t even know about the launch. Their marketing effort is going to matter way more than the launch event. The only thing that truly sucked about the launch is the US getting it way later than everyone else around the world.
And you need write an article about Apple’s bleak future. The best ideas they have left are making the device lighter and thinner and well that’s pretty much it. They cannot coast on that forever. Anything and everything they do now will be following the market. There is no more setting trends. The only surprise left is how long is it going to take for them to become just another tech company.

Remains to be seen if “good but not great” will be enough for BlackBerry to turn their downward trend around. Looking at Windows Phone, that situation resulted in middling success so far.

It’s amazing to me how little people actually know. Stock price has no effect on company profits. This can be seen by Apple stock falling 35% and the company having their best year ever. In order for Blackberry to fund operations into the future, they need people to buy their products which is the only way they make profit. They make no money from stock trades. All the money from stocks was made at the IPO.

Most of my buddies and peers dont own iphones except for a couple of women I know, previously those women owned blackberries because that was hip and cool thing to own prior 2010. And last I dont own an iphone, dont want one dont need one. Blackberry needs to catch the mass market smartphone users who primarily use iphones and try to convert them back, most of these people are already locked into a 2 year contract with an iphone 4s and iphone 5. RIM may have a tough time converting iphone users, what RIM should do is stick with its guns and secure and hold down business and government users before slash gear and MG siegler of Techcrunch start boasting about iphones and BYOD again.

Where’s the confusion? Even ditching the name RIM in favour of Blackberry is not going to be confusing to anyone because that’s what every knows them as anyway. They don’t have a quad core OMG!!!!! Watch the videos. The OS is slick and fast and the gestures are cool and different. The camera BLOWS to be sure but is hardly a deal breaker.

I’m not buying a friggin’ device after playing with one in a store, that’s idiotic. Especially a BlackBerry or any device from a manufacturer that doesn’t know how to SELL it. What that shows is that they are not invested.

Bloggers eat and breathe this stuff. Though I don’t agree with every single thing, they have early access and are there to share their opinions.

This is what I have to say. I was never a Blackberry users since I always associated Blackberry with business and government usage and I sided with android for the past four years and still do to this very day due to customizing and openess of the platform, a phone that revoloves around me. So far I’m locked into a 2 year contract on sprint with my GS3 and will probably move on to another android phone or maybe the ever growing windowsphone. I’m not sure BB10 will be a game changer this time around. Since so much trendy and trend setting people such as women and homosexuals, ghetto people and hipsters primarily use iphones for now until a new trend setting phone appears on the mass market. Lately plenty of companies and corporations plus government agencies have been dumping Blackberry over the iPhone for work use. Blackberry needs to secure business and government users and lure them back from the iphone. I’m sure government agencies will support Blackberry 10 no doubt since their financially backed by taxes, grants, loans, bonds etc but private business may have probably invested their money on upgrading their IT department to iphones with activesync and dumped BES. President Obama is a Blackberry fan, lets hear what he has to say!

imho RIM/Blackberry/whatever’s biggest issue in the past wasn’t about its horrible track record of updating the phone so much as it was being too comfortable. In a lot of ways, back in the day they were kind of sitting pretty not unlike the way Apple is now. They didn’t upgrade because they didn’t see a need to, much like what you can say for iOS today feeling old. The problem is they caught on too late that they were behind and couldn’t catch up in time.
But BES was another issue. They had hard times updating their phones because more than anything else blackberry was tied to BES and BES was the real money maker. Of course ActiveSync from MS, gmail from Google, etc ate RIM’s lunch and the blackberry suddenly became the device that you didn’t really NEED for enterprise any longer. and I think this switch to BB10 was ,more than anything else, an internal shift from Enterprise focus to consumer where they were never really experts to begin with.

Chris, I’m not saying that blackberry delivered ground breaking stuff but what were you really expecting that they didn’t deliver? In the end, no matter how they wanted to spin it, this was always going to be about playing catch up more than anything else and from that perspective I don’t think they did 1/2 bad at all.

The new BBOS 10 is merely “Catch up” but less. The just got rod of steam engine trains and now have a n Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with navigation. They do not refresh their handsets often enough to combat the constant barage of Android phones. IPhone seems to be feeling the hit due to its slower annual refresh. bB OS 10 is already being reported to have typical first gen bugs and glitches. The unique feature are not differentiated enough to sway mature iOS and Android loyalists to jump ship. BB can only hope to keep existing BB owners from moving to Android, MS or iOS.

So people are complaining that RIM took the proper way of doing things and made a new OS. So where is the outcry about Google just buying up an OS that is almost a clone of iOS. Huh, only a year after iOS was out came along Android. I am not loyal to any OS in the mobile field. Which ever meets my needs I will choose. I am annoyed that Sprint will not be carrying the Z10 at launch since everything from them and that is a single paragraph not even on their website that is only about the Q10. I am not a fan of Android for the issue of the phone I have has many issues and was a high end phone 2 years ago. WP8 looks good but Sprint doesn’t have it, and the Z10 looks great to but not on Sprint. The iPhone not my cup of tea, wife has it just don’t like it. I think BB10 will be great once it is out and I agree the US should be last to get it. Let the countries where they have a higher demand get it first and let it trickle down to other markets. Oh, blame the carriers here in the US. If you can’t test the phone in a short period of time it is not Blackberries fault for your issues.

and please tell me how you’ve come to assess this resistance? Wouldn’t it make the most sense if WP did ‘activily resist’ to BB because of its low marketshare?

But anyway, yes we are all entitled to our opinions here, but I got the impression yesterday by all the tech websites the opposite of a hit. Having 2 flagships that cost full price on contract/off contract pricing (probably still expensive)…is simply not the way to go when you are an underdog in the market. I’m no WP fan, but at least MS got something right when they pushed out WP7/8.

what makes it so different/nicer than the other phones on the market today? the OS looks pretty cool but the hardware tells me its on par with just about every iphone/android/windows phone out there. Hell the Z10 had the worst camera on a phone that testers have seen in years. At least Windows Phone is bringing something unique to the table with Nokias pureview technology.
