My friends send me “funny” photos of animals pooping inappropriately. Gear Live’s friends send them photos of the much-rumoured black XBox 360, in fact they’ve had two independent tip-offs from internal sources at Microsoft. The first was a confidential box-art design, revealing this new incarnation to have three USB 2.0 ports and, more interestingly, a HDMI socket, while the second was this little beauty:
Considering the two images match, they’re leaning toward believing it to be real. I wonder if this will be as “limited edition” as the silver PS2 was - there never seemed to be any shortage of them in any shop I went into, once again proving that there’s more marketing than exclusivity in the word “limited”.
Confirmed?: Xbox 360 Limited Edition Black Box Art [Gear Live]

Thats not very convincing, the lower, larger image shows a silver/grey hard drive (all-be-it slightly darker than my white 360’s) but the smaller image has a black hd. the B in Black is not the same as in the XBOX logo and the design has the white style 360 background suspiciously behind the wording.
I really like the design but I’m wondering why ms wouldnt deliver the b360 in an all black box when the w360 was in a mainly white box right? Im guessing that it was to save time in photoshop, where imo this very nice design has been cooked up.
I still have serious doubts about the introduction of an upgraded hdmi 360 coming out this early in the console’s cycle, when so far everything ms has done has been geared to vga or component - even the hddvd. If it’s true, I could see this coming out in maybe 2 or three years time. In the meantime MS could make loads of money selling add-on hddvd drives and bigger hds to its installed 360 users and the tech in the white 360’s will improve - the quiter drive and fan for example.
First it looks very convincing. The chrome drive plate will show up darker or lighter depending on the lighting. The “B” in BLACK is not going to look the same as the one in XBOX simply because XBOX (and the specific type would be a logo whereas the word BLACK is not part of the XBOX logo. In addition, there is now confirmation from various retailers about sku’s for a black Xbox 360 due for 05/01/07. (I’ve also recently spotted photos of a black HD-DVD external drive stacked on top of a current white one.) The black Xbox 360 is supposedly going with the new chipset, quieter drive along with HDMI output and 120 MB hard drive. What can I say, I’m all over this when it comes out.
