BioShock definitely ranks pretty high on my list of favorite games from 2007. I’m not the only one that felt that way, as it has more than a few awards sitting on its mantelpiece (that is if a game could have a mantelpiece). Naturatlly with a game this popular there is speculation regarding a sequel. There’s no need to speculate any further, Take-Two has made it official.

Take-Two has announced that BioShock 2 will be developed by 2K Marin and will ship in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009. I hate when people announce things for their fiscal years. I understand why they do it, but since every company is different, you have to track down where their fiscal quarters lie.
If you were wondering, fiscal Q4 ends at the end of October, so we should hopefully see the game in stores before November 2009. Just in time for the holidays.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Bioshock as much as any other guy( or girl i guess). But i hate it when companies rehash old ideas and try to pass them off as new. Why can’t they take all of the creativity and innovation that went into Bioshock and produce something original. I realize its not that easy, but I don’t care.
…oh yeah, first.
I agree with josh. I don’t have anything against sequels, but I don’t think Bioshock should get one. It was a story about a dying city – by all observations in the game, it was in its final days regardless of what you did there. I don’t see where the story can go from there.
Unless it’s a prequel… but the audio tapes in Bioshock cover too much of the city’s rise and fall, I can’t help but fear everything in Bioshock 2 will be familiar. The best thing about the game was that it was so unfamiliar.
BioShock was my favorite(and by far many others) game of 2007. As well as one of the best games on the XBOX 360 itself.
…Still, it does not NEED a sequel. This is a major gaming company trying to milk the cash cow. A problem the game may already face is the fact that its NOT being developed by the original developers, aside from the Creative Developer. If a SEQUEL MUST BE MADE: please keep the creativity within 2K BOSTON and not some new branch of 2K.
and as stated earlier, the game was already about an ended ordeal. You can’t continue something that’s already dead.
a Prequel WOULD be a good idea, but where would the action concept and the BigDaddy killing / Little Sister encounters come in, if Rapture is still alive and kicking in this prequel?
bioshock was a great game with awesome detial and had a great story. i think if they made it great the first time they can make a sequal as great as the first game. and who knows they could make a story with him coming back before he gets old and dies.
i loved the first bioshock. the combat system was fantastic. The sequel/prequel will need to have online multiplayer for me to buy it because that was the fatal flaw in the first game that could have made it a great game instead of an average one.
