St. Vincent is a comedy about a fellow who is at war with the world in a very traditional way – it’s a coming of age film about Bill Murray – what more do you want to know? In this film is Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O’Dowd, James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, and Selenis Leyva, whom you’ll know best (at this point) for her role in Orange is the New Black.
This film has Melissa McCarthy moving in next door to a man who doesn’t normally work well with others. Instead of continuing to be a creep, he begins babysitting for McCarthy’s child, whom he then becomes a father figure to. He then effectively becomes the Royal Tenenbaum to this kid where the kid is both Ari and Uzi Tenenbaum.
Raleigh St. Clair becomes St. Vincent de Van Nuys, and this “misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic, war veteran” becomes a good man. Lots of hilarity ensues. The son, Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) is brought to horse races, a strip club, and is asked to “mow the dirt” in Vincent’s back yard.
The screenplay for this film was originally written back in 2011 by Theodore Melfi and the role of St. Vincent de Van Nuys has been rumored to have been set for Jack Nicholson at one time or another. This film was captured in Brooklyn New York and Belmont Park in Elmont Long Island.
This film will come to theaters in the United States on October 24th, 2014. We’ll be there – join us! You’ll pay for the popcorn, we’ll buy drinks.
