People are giving best buy to much credit.

Most of the web enabled devices in store are programmed by in store geek squad to best buy’s secure network, and then the connection is disabled.

Any idiot with half a brain can access the wifi setup menu on those smart tv’s and reenable it. If its got a web browser, as stated it was probably youporn or some other streaming site.

Also stated is if it was another dlna device linking to the tv threw the network.

I’m going with the ladder here, i think some idiot, and yes i’m calling them idiots, at best buy setup the wifi on the tv for demo purposes and it was either left on, or someone reenabled it popped a web browser and went to a porn site.

Linking threw dlna is also possible, but then your leaving yourself open to being tracked as you have to link up to the network to access the dlna tv which would leave a foot print in the logs they can track.

Right… People don’t have to shop at Best Buy you know. If they don’t like them, they should never do business with them and tell people why they’re no good. But causing harm to others because you’re upset about something is idiotic and should be penalized.

Last I checked, trying to show porn to a bunch of kids is a criminal offense. I’d be pretty pissed if some stranger decided it was a great idea to show hardcore Porn to my 4 year old.

Granted the people who should be put on the sex crimes list would be the 2 people who decided this was a good idea, and not the Best Buy. Same deal for the dudes from anonymous who thought porn on the tickle me elmo you tube links was a good idea.

I’d say either an inside job, or more likely, the “hackers” were messing with the TV settings and turned on the Wi-Di feature on the TV and bypassed the store’s wireless network. Much simpler to do, although it exposed the name of the device connected to the TV.

Oh, yes you are right. I misread the article. I thought it said 55″ TV’s (plural) so I figured it was a bunch of 55″ sets. Since it was just a single set makes me wonder if it wasn’t simply someone walking up to the set, grabbing the remote control and discretely opening up the TV’s web browser and going to video porn site like Youporn or Xtube and launching a video and walking away.

They more then likely had their wifi secured using wep which is easily cracked. A backtrack5 live cd would hold all the tools needed to crack the wep. Once they are in they can do what they want. Very likely to have been a recently fired worker or current employee

‘The woman who made the complaint said she felt “extremely violated.” – fine this was not appropriate but I bet this woman probably out to sue the mother out of the store, this country is full of people who supposedly shatter like glass for any little thing, people need to learn how to move on from incidents like these and top trying to sue the world.

If the tv’s are connected to the same wireless network, all you have to do is scan the network for connected devices and bam, you got the tv’s. However if there not, then it becomes an inside job.

Actually anybody with a DLNA phone can beam video to a DLNA enabled tv and I believe thats what Happened.

For the display wall I would probably agree with you. That would almost have to be done manually but the article said a smart tv and Best Buy sets up the flagship smart tv’s from major manufactures on special displays if you were on the wifi and knew a bit about the tv’s and how they were set up you could pretty easily. But if were the display wall they shouldn’t be able to do it over wifi alone.

I don’t think there would be any way to do this simply having access to their wireless network. They would need knowledge of their systems on the network. I get the feeling this was done from the inside or by a former employee who knows the network. If all the sets are getting the same feed someone would need to change the feed on the backend. Either replacing the DVD being fed to the sets though more likely the feed is streamed from a file on a computer so they would need to access that computer and makes those changes.
