Walmart may be getting all the coverage when it comes to the iPhone 3G lately, but Best Buy don’t want you to forget that they’ve been selling the Apple smartphone for some time now. Just to hammer that point home, the retailer is cutting the price of both 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G handsets by $10, in an offer valid until the end of the year.

That brings the price down to $189.99 for the 8GB handset and $289.99 for the 16GB version. Best Buy will also throw in free Walk-out-Working service, which sets up your email, transfers all your contacts over from your old cellphone and generally tells you how to use your new iPhone 3G, as well as double Reward Zone points.
In fact they’ll go so far as to charge your iPhone up before you leave, so if you’re dreading this month’s electricity bill then I guess that could be a draw as well. The new deal is affective immediately, in Best Buy stores; I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple promise to match it.

I’ll never understand this in all my years of watching Apple or people selling Apple…
Am I the only one who looks at a 200 dollar device, and when someone offers 10 dollars off, not throw a parade? Awesome, that’s about… half off of tax. Whoppie! Apple has never had a real “Sale” on their products because they know everyone will be buying it if it were twice the price.
When was the last time you got excited about a 5% sale? Do you think apple stores are going to go…
“DEAR GOD! THEY ARE FLOCKING TO BESTBUYS IN DROVES! THEY HAVE OUR PRODUCT 5% CHEAPER.”
Any Apple store has the ego and prevention to state that the 5% “Premium” is for their experience of the Apple store, and if anything they should raise prices.
