BenQ’s S6 Mobile Internet Device (MID) has finally gone on sale with Italian carrier TIM, priced at €429 ($626) unsubsidized.  The 800MHz Atom MID is centered around a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen and has WiFi, Bluetooth and 7.2Mbps HSDPA.

The S6 - which has also been known as the Aries2 - won an award for “interactive product experience” based on its intuitive Linux Midinux OS.  Other specs include 2GB of SSD-based storage, 512MB of RAM and a microSD card reader.

Measuring 159 x 89 x 22mm and weighing 330g, the S6 is certainly portable and, with the right data contract (TIM are offering 10 hours of 3G access free to lure you into sticking with their bundled SIM and €30/mo contract), offers all the connectivity you need.  Hopefully we’ll now see it offered outside of Italy.
