If Wikipedia is right, then this system is junk !
Eventually, it will have a problem with scalability and its ground stations would be the bottleneck.

The bells and whistles will cease when the biggest real estate bubble in history pops in China and people touting the “magnificent dragon” realize China has kept its currency relatively pegged by printing about as much money as the US.

Why should a fading superstar (the US) have a monopoly on these things? China may have claims to be negotiated like ‘merca but who says they can’t put up satellites anywhere or anytime they like. EVERYBODY is doing it! Welcome to 2012 . . .

Free “SMS messages” ? This is not true, unless one owns an expensive Beidou terminal which could communicate with GEO satellite ! But, if so, why would one need “free SMS” anyway ?
If Chinese SatNav relies on GEO, then it could not be accurate, even with Doppler effect. So, at best, it could only be used for “en route” navigation, but definitively not for take off and landing.

My guess is that if China opened up a competing burger chain to McDonald’s the Pentagon would be just as frightened. Somebody needs to calm those generals down or take away their toys.
