Behind the scenes of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

If you asked me what game I'm most looking forward to this summer, it would have to be Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The game has so many cool things going for it, as you get to use the Force in ways never even heard of in the Star Wars universe. Just the thought of playing as Darth Vader's secret apprentice brings back the kind of excitement I haven't felt for a Star Wars title since SOE ruined Galaxies. Anyway, hit the jump for an awesome video that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the physics engines behind the game.

Basically you have three different physics engines working at any given point. First you have the Havok which is the underlying engine that allows them to control a vast amount of objects at once. Then comes Euphoria which takes care of your AI, which takes fighting enemies to a whole new level. NPCs will actually react differently depending on the surroundings and how they were attacked. They talk about using the Force to levitate someone, and they'll actually grab onto nearby objects to try and regain control, or they'll duck when something is thrown at them. No two reactions will ever be the same, so every encounter will be unique.

Finally the DMM engine actually controls each object on a molecular level. It thinks of every object not as just a crate or a tree, but as the a collection of molecules. This lets glass objects shatter, wood to splinter, trees to sway and bend naturally and even allows objects to interact based on mass and velocity. If this game turns out even half as well as it looks, I'll be one happy Star Wars fan.
