Impact on the Bat Population

Now that it is clear that the Neonicotinoids family of insecticides are the culprit killing honeybees that provide one in every three mouthfuls of food consumed by humans - research needs to focus on neonicotinoid insecticides impact on weakening bats so they can't defend themselves from the white nose fungus. Millions of bats have died already in just the last few years - a single bat will devour more than 1200 insects a night - a looming explosion of mosquito born disease and insects impacting agricultural is on the horizon. I have been a beekeeper for 15 years, and have seen my bees decimated and weakened for the last 5 - 6 years. I suspect the bats eating insects exposed to the Neonicotinoids cocktail in the insects they eat are weakened and can't fight the white nose disease. These Neonicotinoids insecticides (thiamethoxam, clothianidin, Imidacloprid and acetylcholine (sold under trade names Kohinor, Admire, Advantage (Advocate) (flea killer for pets), Gaucho, Mallet, Merit, Nuprid, Prothor, Turfthor, Confidor, Conguard, Dominion 2L, Hachikusan, Premise, Prothor, Provado, Intercept, and Winner)) have been sold for nearly 8 years without final regulatory approval!

Where are the regulators? where are our representative in congress?

It's time to stop the moneyed influence of Bayer Crop Science and others!!!

Time to ban this particular chemical, it seems. Without bees, you're losing a lot of crops...period. And if they're gone, they're gone.

Insecticides as the cause for declining bee populations has been known for a while- at least anecdotally/theoretically. Know why it probably will get worse? Because the major players in the agriculture business- sugar, corn, soy, Monsanto- will pay for lobbyists to fight the issue that will most likely cut into their profits- regardless if bees die and jeopardize the global agriculture future. The companies want money/returns NOW.
