It’s not the moving map that’s the problem, it’s the moving idiots. Don’t stop the maps, stop the idiots from driving.

There’s always going to be a few people who are foolish or not paying attention or whatever. That’s going to be true even if we go back to the days of an idiot attempting to unfold a map against the steering wheel while driving. We all know that happened pre-GPS, and I’d argue that’s a lot less safe than a moving map GPS.

Law should be for the protection of the people. It shouldn’t be focused primarily around the one in a million unlikely circumstance. (and I speak having had an experience with a GPS that led me to a dead end culdesac around a blind turn while stating that the road continued.) Inconveniencing everyone all the time in order to attempt to control the extreme unusual/unlikely is going too far as regards attempting to protect.

If we’re going to protect freedoms, there HAS to be some freedom to make a mistake or you’ve gone too far.

Don’t cripple GPS. It may not be perfect, but it’s a heck of a lot safer than using a map!

I hate stuff like this. We should have inferior products because some small segment of the driving population is too irresponsible to keep their eyes on the road? Why are we constantly catering to the lowest common denominator? You can’t fix stupid, so why should everyone else have to suffer for it?

I suppose there’s an argument to be made that helping out the idiots helps to protect us all, but where do we draw the line?

Just have automatics cars and more HUD’s for goodness sake…..How many more years am I going to have to wait for the flying cars I was promised 30 years ago!!
