Ballmer claims over 500 new features in Mango update for Windows Phone

There are a lot of people looking forward to the next iteration of Windows Phone codenamed Mango. The Mango update will officially be marketed as Windows Phone 7.5 and the preview of the OS is set for tomorrow as we reported in March. Ballmer has gone on record already as stating that there are over 500 new features in this version of Windows Phone. Nokia is also expected to use Mango on the first of its new Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

Ballmer boasted of the 500 new features at the Microsoft Developers Forum 2011. Ballmer offered this hint as well, "[the VIP event will offer tips] Including some of the particulars about who is going to be building Windows Phones and which carriers will be offering them." The VIP unveiling of the new release is tomorrow, but the actual launch of the new version of the OS isn't expected until later this year.

Mango is currently still in beta. If you are wondering what the 500 new features will include, there is a bit more information in the video below. Will you wait on a Windows Phone device until Mango officially lands? The OS is predicted to do very well by analysts in the mobile industry. Ultimately, it will live or die in part based on the quality of the software and offerings developers make for Mango apps.
