The reason Nokia has lost it’s lead in Smartphones is due to the lack of a compelling OS and Ecosystem (lack of software competence!) – the phones themselves have always been the best on the market. Microsoft are a software company, and Windows Phone 7 is a superb OS offering much more than both iOS and Android (XBOX LIve is just one example), the tile type user interface which integrates all of your contacts and centres around your social networks makes the iOS and Android App based offer seem very old fashioned. Put that together with Nokia hardware, with amazing cameras, funky designs and that are hard wearing and sturdy (drop your iPhone once = broken screen!) – I think we are looking at a new chapter in smartphones.
For business users, this partnership is perfect – all of the same Windows Office tools replicated on your smartphone. This will be the death of RIM.

You only need high end spec if your OS/programs need high end spec.

WP7 is designed to maximise the power it has, hence use lower end components yet still perform admirably.

I have a Windows Phone and love it. I think one of the biggest problems is Microsoft’s Windows brand just isn’t thought of as a “cool” thing. iPhone and Android devices are. Even if it doesn’t make any sense, they would sell better if they were called XBOX Phones.

A partnership with HTC would have been better. As for the OS, it’s just too feature-light. You’ve got your browser, your app store, the OS has virtually no customization. No 4G WP7 devices exist.

They need to make their phones thinner, better material smaller bezel, and unique features (as well as the features their competitors have).

good point.. Heyy Guys, I just got a $829.99 iPåd2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37" HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use BÏDFiRsT. COM

One thing that Microsoft needs to fix right now is the control of the updates. They are creating fragmentation, the one thing that made me put my Focus on sale last March was that I got sick and tired of waiting for the updates. I think they have something great in their hands but they fumble the ball at the start. Microsoft get control of the updates!

Microsoft has a complete disregard for a Product’slook, feel, fit and finish. The XBox is a clone of a Dell desktop with fan noise and all. Their partnership with handset manufacturers resulted in unremarkable handsets that do not draw customers let alone entice with an unfamiliar OS from a company known for the blue screen of death. Real ugly looking sound bites and pictures of its CEO doesn’t help in a world where consumers want smart, sleek and sexy. MS needs an image makeover, starting with its handsets and “nerds behind the wheel” image. Needs “smart and intuitive” driving the phone.

Figure it out yet, Microsoft? Try getting hardware to market that your own employees might want to carry around.

Microsoft’s got a great OS, really. The UI is absolutely great, and userfriendly.
In my humble opinion, Microsoft made a mistake with the specsheets.
Instead of proposing required specifications, why not make them minimal spec?
Because all current and future WP7 phones are running mid-end and low-end tech, compared to e.g. Sammy’s and HTC’s flagships.

Failing OS + Failing hardware maker = more fail. It would be like saying RIM was going to start putting their OS on Nokia handsets and expect a revelation of sales. Just not gonna happen.

Sales have sucked because Microsoft has done a piss poor job EDUCATING the sellers, AND the CUSTOMERS.

As a corporate user, I was shocked when I saw how useful WP7 was with an
Exchange environment. In fact, I would go so far to say that WP7 is
perhaps the best OS for corporate end users. But we had (have) no idea
because M$ hasn’t talked about it! They haven’t promoted it, and we’re
clueless.

By the way, I’m a Droid X Google Fanboy.

You have the iPhone and the Android, two great OS’s. The former is a ripoff of the latter, but still why would you use windows. Do you know anyone who raves about their Window’s phone? Microsoft needs to start innovating not following the crowd. To that end, they need a new CEO.
