LG PRADA 3 to use Android; headed to Sprint in 2010?

Mark this down as a definite vague rumor for the moment, but there's talk that LG's next PRADA cellphone might adopt the Android OS.  The so-called PRADA 3 is expected to have a QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen, and it's also been suggested that US carrier Sprint will be offering the device.  If so, it would make this particular luxury smartphone the first carrying the PRADA name to use CDMA rather than a GSM radio.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet gets Android 1.6 Donut with firmware v1.6.08 [Update: it's been pulled]

Archos have released a new firmware update for the Archos 5 Internet Tablet, v1.6.08, and the key change is the introduction of Android 1.6 "Donut".  With the new version of the OS comes the quick-search box for the MID/PMP's homescreen, improved power management, native WVGA display support and VPN functionality; Archos have also tweaked media handling, so that the Archos 5 Internet Tablet better supports H.264 SD and HD videos.

Update: Strangely, all mention of the update - including the firmware itself - has been pulled from Archos' site.

Borders deny ebook reader plans: “We’re not a tech company”

Contrary to earlier reports that retailer Borders were planning to enter the hardware ebook market with a device of their own, the company has denied that an own-brand reader is on the cards.  According to Borders Chief Executive Ron Marshall, both the cost and the time involved are dissuading the firm from such a plan; "We're not a technology company" the CEO told Reuters, "We're booksellers."

NVIDIA Ion 2 GPU for Pine Trail confirmed for Q1 2010

NVIDIA haven't held back recently with their Ion 2 news, but it's good to see the company reconfirming their plans to launch a Pine Trail-compatible version of the graphics chipset and attach a date to its roll-out.  As we heard before, the new Ion 2 for Intel Pine Trail will be a standalone GPU rather than the combined Northbridge/GPU chipset as offered for the current Intel Atom models, and it's arriving in Q1 2010.

OLPC XO-3 pencilled in for $100 2012 launch

After announcing last month that the OLPC XO-2 concept had been abandoned in favor of a more straightforward slate-style XO-3 device, the One Laptop Per Child project have now released renders of what that tablet might look like.  The work of Yves Behar, the design has an 8.5 x 11 inch touchscreen, would use inductive charging, be waterproof and cost around $100.  It's also expected to combine a Pixel Qi indoor/outdoor display with plastic screen components from Plastic Logic.
