There is a DVI out port, S-Video (so you could turn your TV into a computer), USB and a 4-in-1 card reader. It measures in at 42x226x172 millimeters and will cost you a mere $499.

Its supposedly going to be landing on NewEgg on March 1st for those that want a Linux PC that they can stuff behind their TV. Personally, I’d rather have the Mac Mini, some of which have gone on sale as refurbished units for less than the cost of this gPC Mini.

It has a 7.1 channel HD receivers, HD video distribution system, and can disperse music in up to 12 different zones. There is a Control4 system for home automation control, an in-wall iPod dock with content navigation and control, and a 400 disc DVD/CD changer with a management system.

There is also a Blu-Ray disc player and AM, FM, XM, and Sirius tuners. The confusing part is where it only has 160GB of storage space on the music server, everyone in the industry is trying to pack in as many terabytes as humanly possible to satiate their customers and Sony comes to the table with a 160GB, something I could find in my iPod. There is of course some customization available, base price for one of these rackmounted systems is $40k and tops out at about $85k, enjoy.

It has the 2.5” form factor and uses a mere 1.8 watts of power.

The lower power requirements make it greener than Hitachi’s offering. Chances are Fujitsu’s drive will be a bit cheaper than the Hitachi drive when it drops by the end of May this year.

The interface is the obvious 3Gb/s SATA interface for high speed data transfer. This drive could be used in notebooks, miniature desktops, small form factor PCs, DVR boxes, set top boxes, MP3 players, or even portable video devices, god knows I’d love to see a high end Archos with DivX and XviD playback that had a 500GB HDD inside and a large screen.

‘They say money doesn’t buy happiness. That phrase should end with “just kidding”.’ For those of you who recognize that quote, you have an idea where this is going, but lets start with the $8000 price tag for this Jet Ski accessory.

Sure, you’ll never have to choose between a boat and a Waverunner again as the latter can now become the former, I am sure that makes some of you really happy. However, if you have a jet ski other than the Yamaha Waverunner, you are currently SOL unless you hack one of these up to make it fit, but there are talks of this boat attachment being made for other models if it catches on.

What are the upsides of using a jet ski as a boat you might ask, first, you can bring more of your friends/drinking buddies with you, second you can use it for angling (fishing for those not in the know), and third, it looks badass. Lastly, I bet the steering is impeccable, just don’t forget you need to hit the gas to turn too “we’re sorry your uncle hit the pier”.

There are going to be two models the first is the 1500 the second is the 1900. They both with have an Intel Celeron 4xx processor, half a gig of DDR2, 256MB of flash storage, gigabit LAN, 4xUSB (two front, two back), 2x eSATA, and then all the media, instruction booklets, and cables necessary to get things going.

From there they begin to differ, actually they differ mainly in storage capacity that comes with the server, number of drive bays, and likely weight since one has one more drive than the other. The 1500 comes with 500GB of storage in a single drive and has 3 spare drive bays.

The 1900 comes with 2x500GB drives and it says it has 3 empty drive bays as well, but since the units as a whole are both the same size, it seems that was a typo and there will likely only actually be 2 empty drive bays. Software wise you get software to manage the server, software that informs you of fan speeds and temperatures and then PacketVideo’s TwonkyMedia streaming software. All I’ve got is the UK pricing which is £399 and £469 respectively and apparently they are shipping in the next two weeks.

I don’t think I’d have much of a use for this as a guitar amp, unless I took up playing Hawaiian tune (they’re so calming aren’t they?). However as a set of computer speakers or something more along those lines I’d love to have a pair of these.

Well, now that I am thoroughly thirst for some coconut milk, and hungry for some coconut, I think I might try my hand at stuffing something useful into one of these things. Sadly it doesn’t appear to be a mass produced item, in fact its origins are from MAKE, so the guy only made one, but it’s nice.

There was something for everyone at Archos’ stand at IFA 2007 – well, if you wanted a PMP, that is – with a broad range of new media players catering for every spec-demand and budget. Since I’m nothing if not greedy, I’ll start at the top with the brand spanking new 605 WiFi and its swanky DVR base-station; we knew it was coming after it received FCC approval back in July, but there’s nothing quite like seeing a 4.3-inch touchscreen toting, web-surfing, media downloading masterpiece in the flesh.

Available in four capacities – 30GB, 80GB or 160GB using traditional hard-drives, or a 4GB flash-based version – the 605 WiFi can obviously play both music and video in a variety of formats (MP3, WAV, WMA and protected WMA; MPEG-4, WMV, protected WMV, MPEG-2, VOB, H.264) but it’ll also function as a digital video recorder (DVR) when used with the DVR Station Gen 5. A built-in EPG makes scheduled recording straightforward, and shows are captured in MPEG-4 format for easy transfer to your PC.

Of course, having a WiFi connection means you can also locate and download content online, including paid content at Archos’ store, and if you have a home network with media shares on it you can stream those too.

Meanwhile, the Archos 405 is a video-centric PMP complete with 3.5-inch LCD screen, 2GB of built-in flash memory and an SD slot for expanding that. It’s also compatible with the DVR Station Gen 5 for directly recording TV shows to the device, and has the same music/video/photo playback support as the 605.

If your pockets are particularly small, however – in both financial and spacial terms – then you may be curious about the Archos 105 ultra-mini media player (pdf link). Measuring just 7mm thick, it nonetheless packs a 1.8-inch 160 x 128 colour OLED screen and 2GB of flash memory; in synchronises with Windows Media Player via USB 2.0, and comes in black, red or silver.

The 105 is available now in Europe, priced at €99.99, with worldwide availability this Fall priced at $89.99 US.

None of this point-&-shoot nonsense for Nikon; they used IFA 2007 to launch their D3 and D300 digital-SLR camera bodies. If high-quality photography is your thing, then one of these two models may be the choice for you: the D300 is a relatively compact, super-fast shooter, with a new 12.3-megapixel DX format CMOS sensor coupled with a Nikon-exclusive digital image processing system, while the D3 is a true heavyweight contender, packing Nikon’s original 12.1-megapixel FX format sensor and extreme ISO support.

Both models have 3-inch super-density 920,000 dot VGA colour monitors, with 170-degree viewing angle and tempered glass covers; similarly, both have 51-point autofocus with 3D focus tracking. The D300 can shoot up to six frames a second, while the D3 can manage an amazing nine shots a second at full FX resolution or eleven in DX-crop mode.

If extreme ISO ranges make your trouser-parts tingle, then prepare to convulse in delight at the D3′s 100 ISO to 25,600 ISO flexibility; the D300 can’t match that, but it does have the same Scene Recognition System (SRS) with intelligent auto-focus, auto-exposure and white-balancing.

Both will be available in November 2007.
